I am Mexican like I said before, but I am not Catholic. I happend I was walking down the street when I saw people preparing for BBQ I did know why. My question should've been why were there parties. It's just curiosity. I apologize if it look like I was pointig fingers at somebody.

Lent is over with Easter, and traditionally after a period of self-denial, there are parties where people can celebrate the end of that period. Also, Easter has become a celebration lots of people enjoy as family get-together time and is celebrated whether you are part of an organized religion or not. So lots of folks have BBQs or other family meals. (Your original question did not look like you were pointing fingers, you gotta ignore the idiots).

I didn't see the original question, and am now at a loss on thje main issue behind the question. But to answer your current question - people have parties all the time. Since this is a BBQ and you were walking, I'd guess the weather was nice so people invited others to come over. Maybe it was a tradition, or family get-together/ reunion, or somone's birthday. Since this is in Thanksgiving - there is a growing trend of people deep-frying their turkey which is generally done outside and mistaken as a barbeque. Some people do grill their turkey as well.
