cats will ask for attention when they want it, just what cats do.

You have one good answer above.
In addition to those comments, you can find the cat and pick it up and give it affection, either petting or grooming... whatever works...
give it some time alone with you.
Then you can have someone bring the dog into the room on a leash.
Have them sit across the room from you for a while. If the cat remains calm, you can have the dog brought somewhat closer. If the cat's concerned, keep the dog at a distance and calm and soothe the cat.
As was said before, it does take time. Slow and steady... let the cat have exposure at a distance and only bring the dog closer as the cat becomes more relaxed. It could take a month, possibly even more. I introduced two wild dumped kittens to my adult dogs as well as my adult cat and it just took time and patience.

You are supposed to introduce them gradually. The cat should have been in a room by itself for a day or two to get used to the dogs scent. Then you would gradually take the cat into other rooms and finally let them meet.
Don't force it, if the cat has the right demenor, it will come around.

You don't. You just relax and let the cat move at its own pace. First she was just kidnapped by aliens and brought into a new planet and the first thing she see's is this monster slobbery yapping thing that oh for pet's sake I'm ready to hide!! lol. She just needs some time to see that the food is in the kitchen and if she wants the food she has to come out!! She'll relax.

it will take a little time to adjust to the new surroundings. Give the cat time and everything should work out fine. If it doesn't just know that some cats have skiddish personalities...these cannot be changed (believe me because I have tried!).

I would start the new cat off in a small room such as your bedroom and leave the dog in the rest of the house. Let her come out on her own.

It's normal for your cat to hide at first until he gets used to his new surroundings. Just give it time.

There is not a way to keep your cat from hiding...he/she will come out when he/she needs/wants attention..this is just how they are...maybe after time he/she will start staying out constantly

Everday put them in the same room for a while with you supervising them! Then after a while your cat should get used to her new partner, your dog. They should get along by that time!

Ah, we had the same problem. The cat is obviously frightened. I would force the two into a room together so they can get to know eachother and 'explore' eachother if you will. Let them become aquainted.

Give the cat time to adjust. Forcing the issue will just scare him more.
