Yes, you can put a 350 Chevy motor in an S10. I am not sure what a 96 S10 looks like exactly....but tons of people put 350's or even 454 Big Block engines into S10 trucks. But, as others have told you, it will require some money, time, and work.
You will probably want to change transmissions. Is the 350 a high performance engine? If so, then you will want to install a built transmission- perhaps a T400 or a TH350 chevy tranny, that has been built to withstand the horsepower and the torque. Also, I would recommend installing a tranny cooler- that way, the transmission will run a bit cooler when you are performance driving.
You will probably want to install a performance exhaust, too. You will most likely want ceramic coated headers, a dual exhaust, and some sort of high-flow mufflers....Flowmaster, Borla, etc. And, are you going to need to pass emissions? If so, you will need to have catalytic convertors, too. Random Technology in Loganville, Georgia makes some awesome high flow cats that might be what you are looking for. It all depends on how much money you have to spend.
If I were you, I would also put a strong rear end on the truck. I would also put either a large 4 core radiator in the truck, or perhaps an aluminum radiator. You want to keep your engine running cool. That will not only improve performance, but it will give your engine longer life, as well.
I like Chevy S10 trucks that have had engine swaps. In fact, once I have money in the future, I am considering buying one, myself. Good luck man!

Yes, you can. The 4.3L is a 5.7L with two cylinders cut off. There has to be plenty of modification done however. The motor will have to be centered which means moving all sorts of things like rad supports, rad, and condenser mountings. The trans will have to be moved back and beefed up. The driveshaft will have to be shortened and the rear axle will have to be beefed up as well to handle the extra punch from the motor. Not to mention the upgrades to be made on the suspension, front and back, to deal with the extra weight and the extra punch. I would also recommend upgrading the brakes to be able to stop the thing once it gets going. You will also have to get a new PCM with a program to match what you are installing. These are big jobs and not for the faint of heart or a beginner. Good luck.

Yes you can. But it's not worth the trouble. Go buy a sports car with a 350. It'll be a lot less work and worth more if you get the right kind of car.

yes but you need: welder, air compressor, grinder, impact, lots of tools, money, and of course lots of time. You will probably need gasket sealers and gaskets and different exhaust. It would also probably be better if it were 4wd.

It has been done, but will take some mods and will possibly not pass emissions.

Yes you can...but not without modification. It will not simply "just drop in".
