I have a BS in Multimedia and Graphic design with 2+ years work experience. I think I would be more satisfied teaching and mentoring high school art students. Since I already have a college degree, what could I do now to get into that field?

It depends on the state where you live. In Texas, you would need to enroll in a certification program and you could begin teaching next year with a one-year probationary certificate.

I would contact your state department of education about certification programs in art.

This depends on where you live. Check with the department of education, or the education faculty at the university/college where you obtained your degree. You should be able to complete the education courses within a year, and that will qualify you to teach. In some places, you may be able to teach just with the credentials you now have, and make up the missing ones at summer school. That's one advantage to being a teacher - you can use summer vacations to refresh, renew and revitalize your major, or even change majors.

Check with your local school district about becoming a temporary teacher while completing the education classes required to obtain a teaching certificate in your state. I wish you well and feel that teaching is a very important and under appreciated calling. You will have the ability to influence many students. It is a shame that our society values sports figures and celebrities over folks working in the helping professions.
