Most of people that I know have only mortgage debt and/or auto loans. There are also students and recent graduates with student loans. Some people are in debt because they cannot distinguish between want and need. One has to live within their means and try to save money for rainy day.

everyone is that is an adult is unless you are rich. We are still paying for our house and have 20 years left to pay. Took out a loan for both of our vans. After them are paid for we are going to take out another loan to put an addition onto our house. We will be in dept for a long time, but well worth it in the long run.

So yes, everyone is in debt.

If you are talking financial debt, I don't think so.

Comon' we live in the US...pretty much everbody lives above their means unfortunately. We live in an individualist society, nobody cares about their neighbors unless their children are playing too closely to the car that we can't really afford is still being paid off.
