I believe they are called zero lot LINE houses.

Zero lot line houses are houses with very little side yards. Most often, there are just enough space between houses for an air conditioner unit and a person to pass through, not much more.

Zero lot line houses do NOT share walls with the next house. That is a duplex.

Zero lot line houses usually have a small back yard.

In most areas a home must be built so many feet from the edge (usually side edge) of a lot. In some areas a home may go right up to the edge of the lot. Think of row houses, townhomes, etc.

It can be a house built on the entire lot, having no yard leftover. Or it is a house built on a lot where an extremely small amount is left for yard.

That's where the structure is built right up to the property line on the side instead of having a sideyard.
