The warning signs are:
1. Fewer wet diapers (this is a big giant sign in a newborn and means she needs to be seen by a doctor right away)
2. Projectile vomiting, especially if it happens every feed. In rare cases babies can have what is called "pyloric stenosis" which makes it difficult for food to get into their stomach. This can be corrected by doctors.
3. Vomiting up something other than her recent feeds.
4. Reflux: You can take her to your family doctor to have her assessed for reflux. This is also easily treated.
Try keeping her "sitting up" for about half an hour after feeds, this can help.
It is very common for babies to spit up. It often looks like they spit up more than they actually did! The main thing to look for is the amount of wet diapers she is having. If she is peeing well and content, than she is fine!

Usually babies regurgitate a lot (hence the nice little goobies on every Mom's shoulder). If a baby is actually vomitting (ie throwing up the contents of it's stomach), or even projectile vomitting, like once a day or more I'd be going to the doctor immediately. In the case of an infant they rely on parents to figure it out ,and infants can become dehydrated VERY quickly. If it persists, then it's time to change doctors and see if your child could have an allergy. And don't ever let a doctor tell you "Oh, it's nothing just go home". Mothers and Dads have an instinct when something is not right with their child so do what you have to do to get it corrected.

Spitting up is very common. Be sure to burp him well.
Failure to gain weight and fewer than four wet diapers a day are warning signs.
Projectile vomiting, that is vomitus that travels two or more feet from the infant is a sign of an obstruction known as pyloric stenosis. On careful exam an experienced physician can feel an olive sized mass in the abdomen, but it can be accurately and earlier diagnosised by an ultrasound exam. The cure is surgery.
If you have concerns, see your doctor.

If the spit up has a lot of force and sort of shoots out of the baby that can be a problem -however sometimes that happens when they overeat and you sit them up.
Realistically you are only looking for three things: pain, dehydration, failure to gain weight appropriately.
So long as your baby is making enough wet and poopy diapers and not in pain, nothing should be done. ALL medications AND adding cereal to feeds have risks, and should only be used when necessary.
"If your baby is a ‘Happy Spitter’ --gaining weight well, spitting up without discomfort and content most of the time -- spitting up is a laundry & social problem rather than a medical issue."

my son used to vomit quite a bit when he was a baby - he had the reflux problem and i put him on a specifically designed milk for the problem which made it alot better. As long as ur baby isnt doing it all the time and becoming dehydrated then theres nothing to worry about. Try switching milk.
