It's a good excuse for eating lots of shaped chocolate, spicy buns with a bread cross over their top, and four days off in a row ! ! !

well first of all let me say thanks for seeing reality I thought I was gonna throw up with all this crosses this, commercialism that...lol.
Actually, the practice of giving CHOCOLATE easter eggs didn't really come about until chocolate became widely available and popular. Before then it was just a regular ol' hen egg. But the real reason and connection between the easter bunny and easter eggs is the story I've often heard come easter-time, which is that a woman with special abilities had a bird that layed golden eggs so she didnt want it to get away. When it did get away and she found it, it's punishment was that it was turned into a rabbit, but it still layed eggs because of its former bird-self. Easter and christmas I celebrate simply for the fact that it's fun and on a somewhat pagan slant, because the seasons change then. But I do agree that this whole holiday shebang has gotten a lil too big for its britches...no matter what anyone believes a holiday should be simply about gathering with other people in celebration, simple as that.
Hope I helped. (=

You don't have to be a Christian to eat a chocolate egg. Passing out chocolate eggs as a kind gesture is the same as offering chocolate at any other time of the year, this just happens to be the time of year when you can easily find chocolates shaped like eggs. It's just a piece of chocolate! If someone gets offended by your kindness, then perhaps you should stay away from her/him. Not everyone celebrates Easter. For many, it is just a Sunday where family and friends gather to have a big meal, as it is nice to catch up with people you don't see very often. Not everyone places religious value to it. For example, at my grocer's, these past few weeks are the time of year where the matzo crackers and kosher food items are more available and the variety is wider than usual. If I feel like having some matzo crackers, does that automatically mean that I am celebrating Passover? The people at the check out didn't say "Happy Passover" to me. Should I be offended? Don't worry about being so politically correct and worrying about offending people. You can be festive and kind without religious undertones.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!
So, I decided to make a point to my husband using Easter as an excuse!
I'd have to say this was most interesting, and done in good fun, had quite a laugh!
My husband does things over and over again that annoy me to no end, which have been discussed already. He says he'll work on it, but I see no changes.
I planned an "Easter egg scavenger hunt" for him - I started off with his favorite candies ... then I lead him to the annoying things he does, such as stinky socks lying around the house, crumbs on the couch, leaving garbage in the sink, empty beer cans all over the house, hideous stinky slippers and old clothes that he HOARDS ... LOL!

It's a cultural thing, at least in the US. At Christmas you exchange gifts, even if you're not a christian. On Labor Day, you get a long weekend off, even if you're not a member of a labor union. On Thanksgiving you have turkey, even if your ancestors didn't come over on the Mayflower. On Easter, you get chocolate and colored eggs.

I'm not religious but that's not going to stop me from celebrating. Why should I? Although Easter is a religious holiday, it's also a fun holiday.
If you want to be a spoilsport and bury your head in the sand, then give ME all your chocolate and other Easter stuff. No sense giving something to a total humbug. Now if you'll excuse me, I, as an adult, have to be a kid for a day and hide eggs from my fiance.

We, as a society, celebrate celebrations. We don't really need a reason. I am not a Christian, but I play Christmas every year. It ain't about the religion at all. It's all about the fun.
Barbara is right. Eat a chocolate bunny. You'll feel good.

EASTER is basically the time when Christ has risen from the dead. and also EASTER means a new life. a life of love from GOD and from others. the EASTER EGGS that you recieved is a gift for you to accept, and accept the people who gave you the eggs as they are. it is also an invitation for you to Celebrate with us in our joy . Christians or Non Christians, we are free to celebrate EASTER, as long as we are willing to. and everyone of us is loved, especially GOD. and God is just waiting for you to have a new life with HIM. it is up to you.

If you are not religious, you shouldn't really celebrate Easter or Christmas! However, we are conditioned to take part in these celebrations from birth most of the time so, we continue doing so. Of course, once you are an adult, you can make a choice - to be honest, most of us are hypocritcal when it comes to religion - "Christians" who don't go to church, get caught up in the materialism of Christmas and presents etc - it's the way of the world. I am not of any religion by the way!

Maybe before you criticize you should get your facts correct, GOD did not rise from the dead it was his only son Jesus Christ, God made this wonderful place for all living things to live and enjoy it's too bad that we're all chasing the good Ole dollar bill and forgot what life is suppose to be about. GOD is the creator who made all and Jesus died at this time for our sins and for this you should at least give some thought about today and really why we're here today. God will not punish us for the wrong doings we are ALL doing in today's world he will watch us destroy our self's and I pray to God he will forgive me, GOD BLESS YOU and all of us. Have a nice life.
