who the f*ck cares about 'Singapore' having a 'significant mention in a holloywood blockbuster'?

this question makes no sense!

and for captainjackswench: the port of Singapore has been around (and been named Singapore - or Singapura) since 1819...so it isn't a 'mistake'.

British colonial administrator Thomas Stamford Raffles founded the modern city in 1819 on the site of a fishing village. The sultan of Johor deeded the land to the English East India Company in 1824. In 1826 Singapore was incorporated, along with Malacca and Pinang, into the British colony of the Straits Settlements. Singapore soon became a major commercial center.

Since the movie is not yet out, it is difficult to answer the question regarding the role of Chow Yun Fat. Other than the little bits we've seen in the trailer, how can you evaluate his role?

As to Singapore, that's another Disney 'mistake'. Singapore was not known as Singapore during the Golden Age of Piracy. Goes along with the East India Trading Company issue -- they never really were a presence in the Caribbean. But it is Hollywood.

And finally, I am glad you believe it to be a "Hollywood Blockbuster". Since it hasn't been released yet, that 'tag' really can't be applied. I believe it will be, but it's not out yet.

,,,,,For 'mesquitemachine' - regarding Singapore, yes it was has been called that since the 1800's, but the Golden Age of Piracy (which these movies are based upon) is between the mid 1600's through mid-1700's. It wasn't known as Singapore then. You can also 'date' the movie based on the costumes which cover a range through those dates as they never specifically 'date' POTC movies. For historical references though, Port Royal was destroyed in the late 1690's so again - Singapore of the 1800's is 100 years away. Check your history.

First, I haven't seen the movie yet. Therefore, I haven't seen the 'role' in which he plays so can't comment on it.

2nd, you say he was 'caught' saying "Welcome To Singapore". By 'caught' then you must think he's broken some law or said something immoral. I don't think mentioning 'Singapore' is against the law or immoral. Singapore is referenced in a LOT of movies. Last week someone ask how many movies referenced it and it was LOTS. As for being 'proud' that Singapore got a mention in a Hollywood blockbuster, I don't think theres anything in the history of Singapore that was said or done in the hopes that Singapore would get a mention in a movie. It's giving Hollywood too much power there. ;-)

i think it's perfectly fine. i mean, you hardly ever hear about Singapore for anything, so might as well hear about it in a huge movie.
are you sort of asking if i or anyone is offended? well, i'm not from there nor have i been there and it really doesnt matter to me. they could have chose India or the Philipines or Alaska. as long as the people from Singapore don't care then i think its fine.
i LOVE those movies and totally can't wait til this 3rd one comes out!!!!!!! ;)

umm... well a "source" of mine told me this about the movie and his role... believe me if you want she's pretty honest about things so... ok well chow yun fat is one of the nine pirate lords (most powerful pirates i'll explain about that later) and well he captures elizabeth because he thinks she's a ancient chinese water princess (sp?) eventually chow yun fat dies and he gives elizabeth his power as one of the 9 pirate lords, and his ship... later on elizabeth is one of the lords and takes place in the figh etc.... anyway the reason he is saying "welcome to singapore" is because all the lords gathered to fight the government because they want to kill all pirates, so he is saying "welcome" to the other lords...

Why would Chow Yun Fat lower himself by even participating in this Pirates drivel?

Those Pirates movie make no sense are ridiculous. Which is probably why so many people go see them.

People have no taste in quality films anymore.

I think it is great that he has added his talent to this movie. He is a wonderful actor.

As for how his role plays out, you will need to wait to see the movie to know for sure.
