Also, do are you part of a group of some sort (formal or informal) with others that share your interests? How do you go about meeting them?

Sketching and watercolor painting are my favorite pastimes. I can remember as far back as a child that I loved to draw still life. I was really into nature and scenic views.
Sewing was a pastime and just recently I have taken that up again. I also like to cook if that counts as a hobby.
Gardening is not so much a priority anymore, but I love to plant Spring bulbs every fall. Spring is my favorite time of year and I have a good feeling when the new shoots come up.
I was raised in the countryside and would say that contributed to my love of nature. My grandfather was a farmer and market gardener and was always planting. My grandmother liked to sew and cook, so taught me from early childhood.

These are my favorite things to do....Each hobby is a part of my personality and I cannot imagine not doing at least one per week.
1. My sister taught me to crochet because I asked her. I have completed one blanket= fair for a beginner but a bit lop-sided on the edges and presently working on 2 more.
2. I consider reading a hobby because it is relaxing and I have always loved books from the time I learned to read in grade school. I made a bet last year I could read more books than my friend and half way thru the month she gave up but I kept going. Now, I have a Reading Tally of 109 books (which includes a dozen volumes of poetry/prose) starting Fall 2001 through last week April 2007. (many Titles were read as part of University Literature courses)
3. I collect stamps. In 1983-4 The US Postal Service released a 4 stamp block of carousel horses--and I love horses, so, I was hooked. My parents bought me a block of 4 with a special offer of a carousel poster which matched the design of one of the stamps; I still treasure it today. My Father, Grandfather and Uncle all collect stamps too.
4. I penpal. Yes, I send old fashioned letters with postage to friends. I joined a club years ago because I was looking for a friend in another state (U.S.A.) and tho I 'm not writing those same people, I have found others and I still write and we also trade what we collect.

I don't mind sharing about my hobbies, but as you can see they are all something I can do myself. I have met penpals, but that takes lots of arrangements. I have gone to stamp expo's and shows to buy stamps but online and by mail is quicker. And no, I never thought of joining a reading group because I haven't found one nearby, and until recently I was at university discussing books anyhow! Thanks for the question.

I collect exotic weaponry. Sai's, Nunchakus, Swords, etc. I am constantly trying to learn new moves/ways to use them. The reason I started was I have always had a love for them. When I was really young, I saw a martial arts expo. I saw a guy using the Nunchakus and that was it for me. My family could never afford lessons so I spent my time reading and learning all I could. I made my very first Nunchakus out of my moms old broom handle. Been collecting ever since, although the quality of my equipment has improved greatly.

I love to scrapbook. I belong to a number of yahoo groups on the topic, and also have been the organizer of a local organization holding a monthly get together for the members. I also have my own scrapbooking business where I teach others how to create beautiful memory books, and also sell the supplies that they can use to make the books their best.
