Try cleaning up your registry. Defragment your hard disk. Scan for viruses or spyware. There could be a lot of apps running in the background. Edit your boot sequence and disable those drivers you don't want to load.

You could be also running memory hog programs simultaneously. Try to run just one apps at a time. If you must and will do this often, consider adding more RAM.

You probably need to a program such as ccleaner and clean the temp files from the hard drive. You could also have a virus that's causing the slowdown. Go to trendmicro and do a free system scan. You should also defrag your hard drive once every two weeks or so.

Ccleaner is a free program but you can buy a deeper program such as tuneup utilities that does a heck of a lot more debris removal.
