Re: Breast augmentation
Attn: Ladies who have had plastic surgery or other berast implants to make their breast size bigger. Does it prevent you from breastfeeding? What are the disadvantages? Is there anyway to have bigger size other than having surgery? Kindly advise, thanks in advance.

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss the pros and cons of the various options available to you to make sure you fully understand the implications of the procedure you are considering.

One of the options to consider is the location of the incisions through which the breast implants are surgically inserted. There are three common incision sites: under the arm, around the nipple, or within the breast fold.

The most commonly used incision is the inframammary incision, wherein the incision is placed in the skin fold below the breast. A major benefit of the inframammary option is that women typically experience less difficulty breastfeeding after breast augmentation.

Another option to consider is to have the incision along the edge of the areola, the colored area around the nipple. This is called the periareolar incision. This incision usually heals well, with the scar blending well with the natural change in skin color. However, in some cases, there may be a loss of sensation in the nipple area. It is also associated with a higher likelihood of inability to successfully breast feed, as compared to the other incision sites. Some surgeons also feel that there may be a higher rate of implant exposure to the body's own bacteria from the patients milk ducts.

no sweetie you can still breastfeed with implants the disadvantages are that they could leak, or break. there isn't anyway to make your breasts bigger but to have breast augmentation done. it is very safe. my worst of getting the procedure done was the pain i felt the day of surgery. it felt like my ribs were broken, and if course im a skinny girl and it was hard on me. i haven't had any problems with my implants in november it will be 2 years for me. please make sure you have a good plastic surgeon do it for you. make sure you see before and after photos. if you look online at breast augmentation photos you'll notice in alot of womens breasts they are not even. you dont want that. i got very very lucky. the plastic surgeon did an EXCELLENT job on my implants. they look REAL GOOD they dont feel or look fake. they feel just like natural breasts do. you won't tell the difference except that they are much BIGGER and you have a HUGE CLEAVAGE. you'll be glad you did oh and another thing. you know the natural breasts SAG you dont have to ever worry about that with implants. they always STAY PERKY!!

It is likely, but depends on the kind of surgery. Incisions that were made transaxillary (armpit) or inframamary (breast crease) should not cause any trouble. The most popular method, periareolar, puts you at greater risk for problems.

If the nerves around the areola were not cut or damaged during surgery, you may be able to nurse fully or partially. Nerves are vital to breastfeeding since they trigger the brain to release prolactin and oxytocin, two hormones that affect milk production. Your chances of breastfeeding also improve if your milk duct system is intact.

No evidence supports that silicone from silicone implants leak into breast milk. Silicone is very similar to a substance used to treat a baby's stomach gas.

You will not know the full extent of nerve damage, if any, until you try to nurse. If you were thinking of having a BA, but want to nurse, postponing surgery is recommended. Wait until after you have given birth and breastfed your last child. Another alternative would be to feed your baby formula. The final decision is up to you.

The implants are between breast and muscle; so breast feeding should be possible. As a male I hate them. That is a disadvantage as other men feel the same.
