I think most people would be really surprised if they knew how many of their friends, family and colleagues have some sort of "mental illness". It's no shame...just screwed-up brain chemicals so you fix it with other chemicals. Just like diabetes, high blood pressure, and numerous other conditions. I really think the stigma of "mental illness" would be lessened even further if people could refer to that condition as having a "neurotransmitter condition", which is what most mental illnesses really are.

Yes, unfortunately too many. As mental illness is usually caused by brain chemistry problems, I don't think it should even be classified the way it is anymore. The brain is an organ - if the brain is affected it alters behavior, so it should really be called a physical illness - because IT IS.

My sister is Schizophrenic, was diagnosed when she was about 7. She isn't really crazy and has two personalities, and hallucinations like people think when they hear of schizophrenia. She is just a normal person that can't keep her thoughts all that straight, and doesn't have the best judgement. She often changes the subject right in the middle of a sentence. But she is totally awesome, and it's not as bad as most people think. (:

Yeah my mom works with people with special needs. Sometimes I have to go with her to help her out. Most suffer brain injuries but are really cool. They're not too different from everyone else. I've found they just know how to be themselves a bit more and tend to be more open about things! x

Yes, me.
I'm being treated for depression. It's caused by an imbalance of chemicals in my brain, especially serotonin.
Last weekend a psychiatrist sent the deputies to take me to a hospital. I was scaired sh!tless once I found out what was happening. (They all lied to me.)

Seriously, I know several. The key to understanding it all is to know all you can. Educating yourself makes a difference.
