Well, they were very innovitaive for their time. No one at the time used loops or synthesizers. It was also that they had whole concept albums that had purpose without sounding stiff. There is no onther band that had or ever will have the Pink Floyd sound because it's so unique.

Well, Pink Floyd was way ahead of their time, their experimental sounds and av ant gard stylizing really set them apart. I suggest you listen to a variety of their music, as you will never get a true idea of the scope of their genius from one or two songs, or even one or two albums. Their guitarist (David Gilmour) is considered to be one of the greatest players to ever pick up the instrument.
I think in most every ones opinion, yes, they are worlds better than U2 or the chili peppers.

it is almost a blasphemy to compare floyd with the other two, I respect U2 and Peppers but floyd is way ahead, however if you are very much into commercial music you might get bored with floyd, it is not for everyone outthere.
