Dreams are metaphors for how you feel about your life at the time of the dream. In what way are you headed for a fall into an abyss? Perhaps you've made a choice that you know will lead to something bad for you. Notice when you have the dream since it's recurrent and see what you did BEFORE the dream that spells trouble for you.

I agree with Joan, that dreams are metaphors and that you probably have anxiety about something that you feel is immanent and out of your control. Chances are, however, that you will be able to manage it. Just get your thoughts together.
I thought I would also add a comment from a Freudian perspective. Freud said, in an Interpretation of Dreams, that many falling dreams are shrouded memories of when people threw us in the air and we had the feeling of freefall as children. I had a dream of falling out of a plane repeatedly as an adolescent. When I read this interpretation of Freud in high school, I remembered an uncle who picked me up and threw me in the air when I was younger every time he came to visit. They were fond memories. Freud felt we shrouded them or tried to hide their meaning from ourselves because we did not want to admit to ourselves that we wanted to live as young children when we had less responsibilities and could enjoy simpler things and life was less complicated.
Not really an interpretation, just an interesting thought.

I heard the scream of the dogs, they are awake when most people sleep.
Life is not sweetness, it's danger and suffering. You must shape yourself to life, you must be creative like water, you must be generous like the sun. Be unjust like God.
Life is the game Second Life, you are a character, other characters mean nothing since they are powerless to harm you. Everything become meaningless when one is powerful.
You are powerful because you are outside the "life" game, you are powerful over all beings.
