OZ seems to have all the elements which keep being sited as reasons to ban the Potter books (wizards, witches, magic, etc.) and Alice is CLEARLY a drug user (red pill, blue pill) on a bad trip (hell, even the caterpillar hits a hookah). In fact MOST children’s books can be viewed as dark and twisted (re-read Hansel and Gretel some time).

So why is Harry Potter singled out for banishment?

Because some religious nuts thought that the Harry Potter books took place in reality.

well its the whole witchcraft thing i think its because harry potter is a little more dark then the wizard of oz there was a huge up raw about it when the first book came out because like i said its largeness of witchcraft through out the book and some parents seem to have there noses twisted about oh they dont want there kids learning about witchcraft because its the devils work and so on and so forth to me its a crock but thats some parents for ya so yeh its because of the witchcraft in it but its all white magic it dosent posses any harm to kids its a fantasy book i say let the kids exspand there mind use there imaginations hope it helps

I can't stand the character for no other reason than I think he's a pencil necked geek with ugly glasses. On that reason alone I won't let my kids read the books. At least Alice is a hot blond and the Wizard of Oz has cool flying monkeys in it. But then, I never claimed to be unbiased.

Witchcraft and evil villains.. The Wizard of Oz was a family movie! Harry Potter is way more unsuitable for children..

Beacuse it is more real to kids and be serious. Some teens/kids believe in witchcraft and sourcery because of Harry Potter if you can name one kid that started doing witch craft because they read Hansel and Gretal please inform me.
