So if I hide my eggs in the wee hours before my daughter gets up to find them, how long are they good for? I'm afraid to leave them sitting at room temp for too long, and they will no longer be edible, but a friend of mine insists that she used to eat eggs that sat out all night all the time when she was little. Anyone know?

I heard one hour max is the time you can leave them out. However, I have nothing by which to substantiate that answer.
I remember having Easter egg hunts when I was little. Once, I found an egg in October that someone just hid too well. (Behind the shed.) I remember being very angry at my grandma that she wouldn't let me eat it. I thought the Easter bunny had left me a special treat!

haha, that's funny (the category thing)
I think you should hide plastic easter eggs instead, that way you don't have to worry about them going bad.
Use the edible ones for decoration when it's time to eat,.

If you arent going to eat them, then it really doesnt matter. But if you plan on eating them, I would leave them in the fridge till its time for your little girl to hunt them. As long as the eggs are boiled, it should be alright for a couple of hours, I would think.
This what my family does and we are still alive and kicking!!
Hope this helps!

Um, I would never eat eggs that were sitting out all night, let alone feed them to a child. Why don't you separate your eggs, some for finding, some for eating?

You should use fake plastic eggs and fill them with money or some candy or some other treats, then dye the edible eggs afterwards......

My Mother always hid them in the morning while we were still sleeping. I think it is a good idea! Do it right as the sun is rising! That way you have light but your kids are still sleeping!
P.S. that is so funny they tried to do that with me once too!

They're still in the shell, you don't have to worry about salmonella. They'll be fine for 6 - 8 hours.
