Sports States:
California- 5 Baseball teams, 4 Basketball teams, 3 Football teams, 1 Hockey team. USC, UCLA, Cal.
Texas- 3 Basketball teams, 2 Football teams, 1 Hockey team, 2 Baseball teams. Texas U, Texas AM. Unprecedented level of competition in High School Football Programs.
Florida- Florida Gators, 3 Football teams, 2 Baseball teams, 2 Hockey teams, 2 Basketball teams, Florida State U.
Ohio- 2 Football teams, 2 Baseball teams, 1 Basketball team, 1 Hockey team, Ohio State U, Pro Football Hall of fame.
New York- 3 Football teams, 2 Hockey teams, 2 Baseball teams, 1 Basketball team, Pro Baseball Hall of fame.
I asked this question, except it was just best football states in America. While those are undoubtley the best sports states in the country, I would go with California, Texas, or Florida as your best states.

Sorry man but its no competition. There are too many sports and between California and New York they have too many teams on too many levels to be competed with. Basketball and Football arent the only 2 sport. You have mainline sports like Hockey, Soccer, Arena Football, and Baseball. None of which Florida really shows much competition. If you think because The Miami Heat, and the Florida Gators make florida the best sports state then your being ignorant. How about the Miami Dolphins? They are garbage, Buccaneers? Devil Rays? Marlins? They all arent worth a damn.
If your a Gator fan then your going off of just Floridas little moment in History and i do mean "Little" they are nothing, 2 wins in basketball? Pfffft look at UCLA's run how many Championships did they win out fo 12 years? Football? You won a championship, what does that make 2 now? What about USC, who in the last few years won 3/4 times. As for the Heat if it wasnt for D Wade or Shaq then they wouldnt be anything. And with that i just disproved your only 2 reasons that Florida is the best sports state. I hate New York teams, AND California teams, but theres just too many that have done too much to compete with. So please look deeper into the question you are asking before you spout off some stupid answer like Florida, damn i hate gator fans, conceited and ignorant as all hell!

Currently, Florida probably has a slight edge over all other teams, mainly because of their college success. It's hard to fight against Florida's top colleges in any major sport. In the past few years, save for the Devil Rays, Florida has had much success on the professional level. The state with the best past has to be New York. The Yankees have more championships than any other professional team in any of the major sports. The Knicks, Giants, Jets, Dodgers, Mets, Islanders, Rangers, and Liberty have all had their hayday and their championships.

You are so true. Gators fans think their the s**t now because they have a litttle success. If you're a Gator fan don't even think about trying to talk s**t to an Ohio State fan. We have 7 National Championships, and you have 2. That's sad. We are proven winners and you are not.
As for the best state. It's O-H-I-O!!! Best fans in the world and the best college in the world. You can't count pro teams because they get their players from everywhere, not just the state. High school football rules Ohio.

I got to go with Texas. They have basketball on lock with Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Nobody comes close. The Ranger and the Astros look good. And their high school football is best in the country. Cowboys and Longhorns are decent in football.

Rhode Island. First off, we have the longest championship winning streak in high school sports. Mt. Saint Charles in hockey, 26 year championship win streak. Longest in High School history. Secondly, Brian Berard was the #1 Draft Pick in 1992 Hockey Draft. Third, we have 2 Halls of Fame, sailing and tennis. Fourth, we started the X-Games from the state. Fifth, Providence College was the first hockey team to win a Hockey East Title. Sixth, we have three minor league teams. The Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins) , Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox), and the Rhode Island Sting Rays (NE Revolution). Seventh, we also have a gold medal in womens hockey. The goalie Sara DeCosta.

Michigan. They are among the elite in 3 of the 4 major sports. The states you named have so many pro teams that of course some of them are going to successful. Michigan also has great minor league teams, women teams, and college teams.
