I do not love hating anything. Hating makes me terribly depressed.

I am almost 60 yo. When I was growing up, the opposing political party, the Republican Party, was just that: the opposing party. You fought! and you fought hard! to win! And then, after the election, everybody could go out for a beer together.

This remained true even after Watergate until, that is, Ronald Reagan's first successful run for office.

During the election year preceding Reagan's first inaugural, the Republican Party ceased being a secular party. Republicans co-opted, during this period, what became known as the 'Religious Right' thus capturing the old Dixie-crats which had been lead by Governor George Wallace away from the Democratic Party in 1968.

I do NOT believe Ronald Reagan had all that much to do with this development.

Reagan himself was, after all, merely General Electric's poster boy. (General Electric made most of its money providing detonation technology to the Department of Energy for thermonuclear devices.) GE, together with other defense industry corporations, planted Reagan in office and thus brought into existence a marketing campaign for the defense industry the likes of which has never been seen before and which continues, day-in and day-out, to the present and into our future.

And what is worse, these days: after an 'election', one is not even sure if we really had one!

I highly recommend to anyone who has not already done so, reading Orwell's 1984.

Better yet, listen! Listen carefully to what President Eisenhower, his last night in office, said to the nation. He was speaking, then, to all of us, now.

Not really. People tend to have far too simplistic views of politics. They generalize and ascribe one-size-fits-all motivations to every action a politician takes (e.g.; 'we're doing it for the oil'). Real life politics is actually far more complex and far less black-and-white.

For example, I support the Republican party. That does not mean that I agree with them on every issue. That does not mean I will stand up for a Republican when he/she does or says something stupid. That does not mean I will make hate speeches about a leftist conspiracy.

I do not argue politics. Either one, I state the truth as I see it, and leave it at that; or two, if someone else is capable of talking intelligently and civilly, I discuss (not argue) politics. There is a very significant difference.

Eh, it goes in streaks. I'll see something that's just plain stupid; basically just stink bait (fishing reference), and I'm actually the fool for taking the bait.

There's only a handful that really want a discussion; the rest are having their second childhood trading insults.

In all honesty, I should just ignore them.

It doesn't really satisfy, anyway...

I love arguing politics with people who listen to my views, and don't pre-judge me, based on their own stereotypes, project their negativity onto my words, and stab me in the back when I am not looking.

I come here solely for the entertainment.

Yeah. I'm pretty bad. I think that there are too many that takes this fighting to heart though. I've seen a lot of personal attacks in the immigration section.

arguing politics on the internet is kind of like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.
