Gynecologists see girls as young as 12 years old, one reason for this is to help them become familiar with what goes on in their offices (this has been encouraged by the organization that oversees the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology).
I didn't start seeing a gynecologist til I was 25 but then that's because I had medical problems going on. I still see my gynecologist on a regular basis for my annual check up.
Now is definitely a good time to take her to the gynecologist, especially if you think that there might be something wrong.
In relation to the issue of sexual activity and going to the gyn, I am a 35 year old virgin that is getting help from my gynecologist. Whether or not the woman is sexually active or not should not impact when she goes to the gynecologist because even virgins can have things go wrong with them medically in that area.
That's why the guideline states either 18 (some drs still have the patient do the annual exam starting at 18) or 21, or whenever they become sexually active whichever comes first.
The fact that the agency that oversees the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology states for most drs to wait til the woman is 21 truly bothers me because women younger than 21 can have medical problems going on in their gyn area.

Some people say 18. Others will say 21. Definitely see the gyno whenever you become sexually active. If you are 16 and not sexually active, but want something like the pill 'just in case' or for menstrual suppression/issues, you can get this from your family doctor who will probably let you skip the vaginal exam and PAP smear.

It is immoral and illegal for the 14 year old to have consensual sex until she reaches 16. What's so hard about understanding that? Is you buddy "slow in the head". The law clearly say "16" and she's "14". Now tell him to take his shoes off because he has to count past ten. Now ask him "how many fingers or toes shy is 14 from 16? He better to J*erk off for 2 more years unless he wants to end up in jail and be tried as a pervert child molester. I don't know what sentences that carries in Indiana but in Texas that a minimum of 25 years in PRISON no not jail PRISON! Read the whole article below and tell you Buddy to stop sending you to do his dirty work.

I went at 19 for the first time. It is a good idea to go once in your teen years and then every couple of years after you become sexually active. The girl you speak of could go now and get it over with, or wait a couple of years.

Since you are asking,
I think now would be as good a time as any....
And good job for still being a virgin,,,BRAVO!!
Proud of you!
If you have a family doctor-they may have someone
they recommend,
or even could call a planned parenthood in your area
and set up an appointment-
they arent all about birth control-
they are about women's health care needs....
It isn't an overly pleasant experience,
but no one i know likes a gyno visit-
Just relax, think of something calming or funny,
it will be over before you know it!
Good luck kiddo

You are the age I was when I first went and I was not sexually active. I went because I found out that some women can begin to have female problems at a young age so I wanted to be sure everything was okay. I was nervous so my best friend went with me and it was no big deal. The whole apt lasts less than five minutes. They explain everything as they go.

You should have your first visit if you're planning on being sexually active. And since it's not always easy to plan for those things, any time after you start dating it would be good to have an initial exam. For sure you should have one before you start college, just because...

now is a good time. it's important to make sure you are in good health in all parts of your body. your Gyn can become your primary doctor, too. Planned Parenthood is a great place for you to go and they will have lots of educational material available, too. a girl should have a visit annually regardless of her being sexually active.

Depends on the girl and/or her mom. Some women take their daughters to the gyn when they get their period, others wait longer. If you feel you are ready to go and/or need to go due to cramps or female problems then talk to your mom and set up an appointment. At 16 there is no reason you shouldn't have an appt if you feel you need one.

I got my first one when I was 15, and try to get back once a year for one. It wouldn't hurt you one bit to go now. Something you'll learn is how to give yourself a breast examination, which you can never start too soon. Go for it sister...
