I thought the Republicans were the ones who hated blacks, but my black friends are calling me a sellout for voting for Byrd. What gives?

Maybe they are referring to his past exploits in the KKK.

I don't think there is one thing I agree with politically with Senator Byrd. He is very liberal and the main reason he continues to get elected is that he brings home huge amounts of pork spending to his state.

I have listened to him several times speaking on the Senate floor and he makes no sense. No one should be able to serve as many years in Congress as he has. This is exactly why we desperately need term limits.

I'm sure you researched Senator Byrd's history, voting record, etc. before voting for him so you should know what he stands for. If you haven't done this then I would highly recommend you do. You should know the candidates your voting for.

If this is a real question, you should remind your friends that they are acting just like someone who disliked you. Do you need these people? Meaness is such a curse, and there is some much of it about. In the future don't tell who you voted for. A sell out would be intimidated by the harshness of this response and do as told from now on. Tell these people that not all black people are liberal, and all conservatives are not white. Clarence Thomas paid a heavy price, with Hill thrown in to sweeten the insult to carnage. Perhaps the Republican Party would have a web site for it's minority empowerment wing. You may find yourself amoung kindred souls. What the hell?

Senator Byrd is a klan leader in West Virginia.

I wouldn't say that your an "uncle tom", I would say that you are misinformed (like most black people who believe that the Democrats are the party that is in their corner).

Perhaps this web site will be a good starting point for you: http://www.lasvegase.com/Democrat_Deception.html

To the poster who claims he's "never heard any liberal call him an Uncle Tom": apparently you haven't been listening. Frankly, it's because Cain's a conservative and doesn't fall in lockstep with the Democratic Party. They know they've lost another vote. By the way, I'm not a Cain supporter, or a Republican, but I'm sick of listening to the ugly racism coming from nasty liberals just because the man holds ideas contrary to their own.

I think there are some KKK ties to Senator Byrd. He's mellowed with age though.

BTW...Republicans don't hate blacks...blacks hate Republicans.

If they called you an Uncle Tom for voting for Senator Byrd, then they wouldn't be your friends, would they?

Now the reason why they did it is because he is tied to the KKK. You voted for a man who supported people who lynched us, and still would do it if they had the law on their side.

My feeling is this: Either you are uninformed about the person you voted for, or you are not Black. If you did know and voted anyway, then I agree with your "friends".

People have already pointed out the KKK link, but what I wanted to question is...who said that Republicans hate blacks???? The Bush administration has more high ranking black officials than any in history. Stop listening to Kanye West, and start listening to Condy and Colin.

Senator Byrd's racial insensitivity extends from his early days in the KKK to his recent use of the "n" word. That being said, neither your race nor you friends should dictate who you vote for.
