As a native Detroiter I'll tell you why.
Back in a magical time called 1991, the Lions had the greatest running back in the game's history. With a sub par QB and a great defense, the Lions made it to the NFC championship game! The city was ELECTRIC. You could feel it in the air. EVERYONE loves the lions. Its not like U of M or MSU where the entire state is divided against each other. NO....this was everyone's team. The Lions, and one more win would put us in the grand daddy of them all....the Super Bowl (umm is the NFL gonna sue me for copyright infringment by using this...I dunno ok nm). Anyways, the Lions in all their might went up against and got DOMINATED by a superior Skins team with the immortal Mark Ripen.....damn you Mark Ripen...damn you to hell!
But this ONE season gave all fans just a tatse of greatness. It showed us that things were gonna get better. We would build on this and get over the hump. However, that sweet feeling was a powerful and evil high. Like many first highs, only the first one is free. Over the years we have been yearning....begging, wishing, hopeing for that high again, only or see our once highly potential franchise team go down the porta john. So because of this high, this intoxicating obsession and our flirtation with greatness, the fans of the D are loyal to the point of the likes the rest of the country have never seen. The Lions have the worst record in the NFL (no fun league) over the last many seasons, Im not even going to look it up because it would hurt my heart and soul to see it. BUT....theLions...ohhh those tricky Lions...SELL OUT EVERY HOME GAME...and it is at each of these games we wait in our comfy Ford Field seats with our $9 beers and try to get yet another feeling of that high. And if only the first one is free...for the second one I say....name your price.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!!

Aaron Curry. He tried out and expressed he would like to help turn around the Lions. Even if Matthew Stafford is the next Johnny Unitas, they won't win more than 2 games with a defense that doesn't pressure the QB and allows 170 yards per game. A leader in defense is by far the Lions most pressing need.

people "root" for the Lions because they have nothing better to do on Sundays in the winter, Michigan plays on Saturdays, so yer already in the area, might as well catch an NFL game, and once NCAA Football is over, we need something for a fix, so we go to Lions games, and ya gotta root for the hometown team, ya know, even though they suck, well, at least Matt Millen and The Ford Family suck, get rid of them, things might change. With the number 2 pick, the Detroit Lions ruin the career of Calvin Johnson, Wide Receiver, Georgia Tech, AWESOME!!

Because the fans are loyal to there team. They do not just give up on the Lions after a couple of bad seasons. Show your loyalty to your team.

1. Because it's the hometown team.
2. Because a long time ago before any one of you were even spermatoids (1959) the Lions were champions. Back in a
time when players played because they loved the sport. A time when players did not have to use stimulants and drugs to perform. A time when players went on the field and proved how good they were by winning, not by running their mouths like punks.

The only people that root for the lions are the people that are from Detroit, just based on the fact that they are the home team. My dad roots for the lions because he's from Detroit. That is the ONLY reason I can think of to root for that team.

That route is the second easiest way to get to a victory for most of the other NFL teams. The easiest route is through Oakland.

They were a dynasty. If my Dad watched them pining for the glory days, should I forsake my dad?
