when the one you love more than the world, but has a serious problem, needs professional help and refuses to get it? (her depression finally brought me to the point of no return... i ended up leaving her after 1 1/2 years. This time, we both lose.)

sometimes, even the Advice Goddess doesn't have all the answers.

I'm so sorry. As someone who's fought depression for over 30 years, I know how tough this is for both of you. Leaving must have been one of the hardest things you've ever had to do. And I'm sure you know the last thing your friend needs is to become any more isolated from those who love her, but you have to do what's best for you.

Is there any way you could get your friends together and stage an intervention for this woman? Often, hearing an unwanted truth from several people all at once instead of the same person again and again can have a powerful impact on one. It might shock her into getting the help she obviously needs.

Good luck to you both.

Noone has all the answers. It sounds like you are suffering, but I understand that when other people need help, and it is so clear to the ones around them, sometimes there comes a point where all you can do is let them go and hope they hit bottom and make the right choice to get the help they need.(Before it is too late.) Try to live your days for yourself, not being selfish in a negative way, but do good things for yourself and find all the comfort you can. Get yourself some counseling if you feel the need. Surround yourself with good people that you trust. Hang in there!
