I read an article once in some doctors waiting room. It was in "Natural History" magazine..or some other science related magazine. Forgive me, was a few years back. The article detailed the many "factors" that had to converge in order for us to be here on this planet. About how "astronomically impossible" the odds were for each of these individual factors to occur. Personally...I do not believe in "God", ok? But it sure gave me pause, I must admit.
Having said that, I have to wonder that if there "is a God"...why would HE start and stop here?
Then one must also consider that the universe has to be some gorgeously "fertile ground" for life and positively rife with possibilites that we are only beginning to understand.
I am thinking....given the infinite nature of the universe....we are not alone.

No. We don't even know how big the universe is yet, nor do we know if we can even comprehend how big it is. We know that there is (or was) water on other planets (mars being one). Just think that if there are two planets in the same solar system with water (the basis for life as we know it) on them, and there could very well be an incomprehensible number of other solar systems, how can it even be remotely possible that we are the only life forms out of all of these other solar systems? In short, no we are not alone.

There must be other life in the universe. I have noticed that with time, anything can evolve to fit living standards and since there are bacteria on planets, it could very well evolve into something of a higher scale, especially if you believe that we have evolved form organisms. However, the odds of us meeting them or finding them are slim to nill, but with recent UFO sightings that are just plain unexplainable (especially with the public opening of the UFO files in france) im getting this feeling like all of this stuff is coming to a climax.

Something to keep in mind though, millions of people think that extra terrestrials will have a specifc look like grey lean beings with large black eyes or little green men but what I have thought about is what if they are beyond our comprehension. They could be completley uncloakable and un-detectable with any sense or machine we have. If that is the case, they could be watching us right now with us not knowing, they could be doing anything because that is just how much of a clue we have about extra-terrestrial life.

We are not out there in the Universe. We are right here. So are many who are not from Earth but you cannot see them.
There are many UFO sightings and I personally saw three myself in 1967 and it was on the news. The sightings were in three counties and the state police reported seeing them as well. The sighting took place near Altoona, Pa. USA.
We would be very vain to think that God stopped creating when the Earth experiment went not as good as he wished.
If you look up UFOs on the Internet, you will find many pictures of those sightings. It would take too long to explain my studies for the past 15 years so I will let you discover for yourself what you believe. There are too many people who have witnessed UFOs consider that. We cannot all be making it up. Rev. TomCat

I don't know, but it's far more possible than most would have you believe.

Look at it this way. There have been lotteries where tens of millions of combinations were selected by players, only to have ONE get the winning set of numbers. To carry the example even further, despite the tens of millions of combinations selected in lotteries, MOST LOTTERIES are won by only one person!

On a far more complicated scale, the same conditions apply to life elsewhere. While there seems to be millions of ways for life to appear elsewhere, it is quite possible that there was only one "winner" (by definition, us!). And the variables involved with life in the universe are far more complicated than any lottery.

I think you have to be agnostic about this question. My guess is there probably is. On some planet with the right conditions, I'm sure that natural selection can produce organisms of a similar complexity.

I think the first life we find is likely to be microbial and not.. you know.. little green men.. or anything that looks even remotely like us.

Also, it's quite possible that we may never know.

The absence of life beyond our solar system would be the single greatest proof against the existence of God you could show me.
