OK, so i got into these 3 schools and I know that my ultimate goal is law school. I've visited all 3 campuses and I like all 3 about equally. Personally Vanderbilt is my favorite but only because of the sports teams (and i live in maryland so i liked the change of scenery over the terps).
The real problem is Vanderbilt, after all scholarships and stuff is gonna cost me about 28k a year and Maryland is gonna run about 10k. Also I got into the Honors Humanities Program at UMD which only admits 50 a year (notice I'm really between Vandy and UMD, but I did sort of like Emory). What is the best decision here to put me in the best place for law school, Vanderbilt for the prestige and the experience or Maryland for the price? I have to admit, the ability to to pay 1/3 of the price and save that money for grad school is tempting but I also love the idea of Nashville. Any comments would be MUCH appreciated.

Emory is without doubt the most respected of these schools, although Vanderbilt is also a decent school. U Md is everyone's safety school. It has basically no prestige at all. So, if you really are intent on getting into a top law school, I dont think MD can hold a candle to the other two. IF you go to MD you have to understand that you will really need to have an absolutely top GPA and recommendations coming out or you will be at some third level law school and wind up defending traffic fines and writing wills in Baltimore.

There are no bad choices.

I'd say that Emory is more prestigious than Vanderbilt. Most ranking put Emory as the second best school inthe South (behind Duke).

Maryland is an excellent state school. Some of their programs (like Business) are among the best in the country.

I think you should go to Vandy because its a better school and you can borrow student loans to pay for Vandy. The interest rates on student loans today are probably less than 5 % per year (i'm guessing, but i know its very low) and you can pay off the loans later.

Go to Vanderbilt.

The important thing is getting the degree. Nashville is a great place if you like country music. It looks like your best value is going to be at Maryland, especially if you do not want student loans to contend with after graduation. Atlanta is a great place too, but off campus housing can be very expensive.
