I was wondering, even if the sun suddenly turned into a black hole of the same mass, would the Earth continue moving in its present orbit or will the blackhole be powerful enough to suck earth in too?

ppl i know our Sun will not become a blackhole..... but my question is just assuming.

If the Sun turned into a black hole, it would have the same mass as now, and therefore the same gravitational effect on the planets. Earth would continue in its orbit, and we'd just all freeze to death.

There is no known way for a Sun-sized star to become a black hole, though.

Black holes are the result of giant stars running out of fuel and exploding in a supernova blowing off its outer layers. The remainder of the star collapses back on itself with a gravity so intense, nothing can escape it, not even light. This makes what remains invisible which is why they're called black holes.

If the Sun were to go supernova, which isn't likely to happen since stars the size of the Sun don't become supernovae, there would be no Earth left to be sucked into the remnant black hole. The explosion would totally destroy the Earth.

First, if the sun were to turn into a black hole the orbit of the Earth would be unaffected. Second, it can't happen because the sun isn't massive enough to form a stable black hole.

If the mass were the same, we would stay in the same orbit. However, the sun is way too small to become a black hole.

according 2 NEwtons law force of attraction between two bodies is given by F=Gm1m2/r^2 where G is d gravitational constant m1 and m2 are masses of the bodies and r is the distance bw them. therefore if the mass of the sun were to remain the same the force of attraction would be same therefore the earth would stay in the same orbit. But of course we would all die due to lack of light and heat.

No, the Sun is under the Chandrasekhar limit of which states the size of a star in which over this limit it must collapse into a black hole at the time if it's 'death'.

The limit is 1.44 solar masses. (1.44 times the size of the Sun.)

If the sun turned into a blackhole, that means taht it could let out no light or heat and we would all die.

the sun isn't big enough to become a black hole but if it did the earth's orbit would be unaffected. We'd all still be dead anyway. (It'd be freezing!!)

If the gravity was the same the earth would continue orbiting in the same orbit. It would obviously be very dark.

the sun can't turn into a black hole because it just doesn't have enough mass.
