Depends on the city. 12 is normal, but some cities with longer blocks can have 10-11 in a mile. But 12 is generally used as the average for a mile.

No help in your data...
You might was well ask how many oranges do you have when holding apples.
City Blocks are NOT uniform, and a City Block in Chicago Il, will not be the same as in Halifax NS.
As for miles in an acre...zero. One is a measure of distance, the other is a measure of area.
If you want to know how many square feet is in an acre...
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=how+many+sq+ft+in+an+acre%3F&meta=
It's amazing what you can find with 10 seconds of typing. ;)
Now...given that your 5000 square foot lot is less than 1/8th of an acre... It's alot less than a City Block.

In my town a city block is 1/10 of a mile in the part that was laid out first. 6 houses in this 100 yr + old town is in a block as they all pretty much measure 50x100 . An acre is 400x400 ft. So you got a city lot ,not an entire block

In Dallas Texas, the street numbering is based on 100 yards to the block - 6 fifty foot front lots. But street width is not included and there is no street in the middle of long (200 yard blocks). The nominal blocks per mile is usually 16 which would be 1600 yards of houses and 160 yards of street crossings. In most places, the block is a very sloppy measure.
