Not at all g it is on the way out and evidence is in the November elections where they were unseated from power in the congress. People are becoming more aware of their hate and lies. .

I think what we're seeing is the Republican Party beginning to splinter. There is so much division over the war. But the division isn't divided into two groups - the Republicans vs. the Democrats - any longer. There are rising numbers of Republicans who are very critical of the Bush Administration and Bush's war policy - and they are beginning to become openly critical, rather than keeping it to themselves. Those who still side with Bush resent their fellow party members being openly critical of Bush. Consequently they have begun to lump together everyone and anyone, whether they are liberal, moderate, conservative, etc., that sides against this war, and then call them all liberals. However, they can't bring themselves, not quite yet, to acknowledge those party members who have jumped ship. As a result they have become more vocal, abrasive and more extreme, as though they are trying to compensate for the Republicans that are throwing their hands up in the air and saying "Enough!"
I think that Bush's complete disdain and dismissal for anything that smacks of Democratic politics has bled over into the party. And as some members of parties always do, including the far left, they take it too far in their enthusiasm. They are the ones we see in here calling anyone who doesn't agree with the way this war is being managed everything from a terrorist sympathizer to a coward to yes, the dirtiest of their words, a liberal.
I'm an Independent and in the past I have voted Republican more often than Democratic. But these Republicans? They have just about convinced me that I may never vote Republican again. Not if this keeps up, these are NOT the Republicans I voted for back in the Reagan years. Just as the far left has always been a little too extreme for me, the far right has convinced me they are no better, and possibly worse and much more dangerous to our country and our freedoms.

You're right. Things have gotten truly ugly and out of hand. Ever since Reagan, conservatives suddenly got in their heads that a one party system was the way to go. Of course that's not democracy, but really conservatives don't care about a democracy of different ideas. Nope, they only want their ideas put into the mainstream. And anything that differs from theirs is "liberal".
Conservatives used to be pragmatic folks, who never, ever would have considered "spreading freedom". The very wording is so bleeding heart liberal that they would never have uttered it. But somewhere between Reagan and Bush, conservatives just completely lost their way and now talk more like liberals than liberals themselves.

Bush got elected with the liberal media too--unfortunately. If you watch, you'll see they only start complaining when the media says something they don't like (especially if its factual--like covering the Walter Reed scandel)
To your question:
Well--the bad news is you are right--the (extremist) conservative element has become much stronger in the last couple of decades. Though this is not the first time this has happened in American history--the first time was the McCarthy Era--even wors (if possible).
The good news: if we (all decent Americans, regardless of political persuasion) just stand up to them, they will self-destruct. And that is happening before our eyes. Even a year ago, momentum was still with this bunch of extremists (I hate to insult real conservatives by using that term). Now they are on the run--their credibility-and acceptability--is crumbling.
Unfortunately, It will probably take a decade to clean up the mess they've made.

I don't believe there are any more so-called conservatives in the US.
What has happened is the new media like Fox News has given the hard right more coverage. And with syndicated programs like those hosted by Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, and books and articles by the likes of Ann Coulter masquerading as news, you have the illusion of legitimacy.
Just shut off the TV, the radio and tune out the dogma. If you need their kind to lead you, may God be merciful on your soul.

Let me answer your question with a question, If there wasn't anything wrong with most "liberal theories" why would conservative extremism be on the rise? People are sick of this PC fantasy world that has been forced down our throats. If a white guy hits a black guy, it's a hate crime. If a black guy hits a white guy, its a fight. If an athelete says he doesnt like gay people he has to undergo counseling, if a gay guy says he hates atheletes he is just voicing his opinion. If a guy has a picture of his wife in a bikini on his desk, it's sexual harrasment to any female who walks by. If a woman has a pic of a chippendale on her desk its just a reminder of a bachelorette party. The list goes on and on and on. Wake up!

To an extent it is just you -- more liberal ideas are beginning to come to the fore as Georgie continues to screw the pooch and disgust even his most ardent supporters; that's how he lost control of Congress.
"Conservatives" are just as EVIL as "liberals;" if left unchecked, both want personal freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution taken away to completely solidify their power. Examples: GCA '68 violates the Second Amendment, and this was passed by a liberal Congress -- an overreaction to the assassination of Bobby Kennedy; the vaunted "Patriot Act" violates ALL TEN and this was passed by a conservative Congress -- an overreaction to the actions of the dead cowards of 9/11.

The Democrat party has been taken over by extreme leftists, and most Democrats don't realize it.
Today's Democrats would be rejected by FDR, Truman, JFK and LBJ.
People don't realize that 20 to 30 years ago, both Democrats and Republicans didn't like the type of people that modern Democrats are.

I consider myself a conservative but less and less a Republican. Less and less associated with any party actually. I guess that actually makes me conservative.

It is the inevitable counter-reponse to the liberal madness that is eating out the soul and heart of our country from within like a cancer. I just hope it is not too little too late.
