i worked for an ebay company -- first off, nicer dresses for things like that tend not to do very well, but they can i suppose if done right... make sure you measure everything about it, and i mean everything length of top collar to back bottom length of top collar to fring (if any) length of fringe (if any) length of top collar to front length of cuff shoulder to cuff length of stripe you get the point... and have a lot of pictures, and include anything that is wrong with it and such, but things likes special occasion dresses, electronics, and such dont do too well since they are needed for something specific and cant be seen or held oh and very important is the title name of maker, style, color, size ex) brand name prom dress floor length blue sz 32 idk if that even makes sense for a prom dress :) furthermore, you starting prices are wayyyy to high, needs to be like 25, if you do a good job with it all it will sell, people will see it, bid on it = bidding war and it will work out, create a buy now if you want to -understand that your not a power seller, power sellers have a 5 star rating and are listed more towards the top of lists too, but you can still sell this fine just do what i said, especially w/ the title

try a local consignment shop-they will price it and sell it for you. They keep a portion of the sales, discuss that with the shop owner or manager.
Have it cleaned and on a hanger. Leave the dry cleaning paperwork on it, the stapled on tag; and/or cleaning reciept, for proof of cleaning. Then take it in. If you are a plus size, maybe find a shop that specializes in plus sizes. Make sure to tell them of any alterations you've had to it, like if its an 8 and you had to have it taken in or let out, maybe now its more like an 8 with a 6 waist or bust...get it?
Good luck selling your dresses-Im selling a few that way myself.

Put an ad in your local paper... This is a good time to sell them considering weddings that are going on this spring and with graduation around the bend.
Other than that contact some Jehovahs Wittnesses as they like them for their conventions coming up this summer.

Consignment shop.....they keep a portion of the money, not much
Just put your price on it. A upscale consignment shop though
Or put a ad in the newspaper.
Another idea....maybe you can take pictures of those beautiful gowns and post in the high school bulletin board, naturally you have to ask if you can do that.

Older pageant girls are ALWAYS looking for prom dresses. Well depending on the style of them I guess I should say...but most of them are great for pageants!
I would look into that in your area. Check out http://www.pageantworldauction.com
Or if you would like you can email me and I will try to help you sell it online too
