Me...I walked to the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge and threw it over the side. No desire to pass it on to anyone...Did'nt like the thought of keeping it...not a memory that warms my heart...I did'nt want to make any money off of it by selling or melting it down . . . The thought that did please me was the ring doing some good by being some ' glitter ' for ocean bay critters to swim around in and over time beautiful ocean water crustration melding to it...I love the ocean and the City.

To keep it as a keepsake or to make any money off of it did not appeal to me.

I guess another thought would have been to melt it down...get the money and give it to some woman's shelter to do some good there.

Knowing it's out at the ocean bay...at the G.G. Bridge pleases me.

What did you do with your wedding / engagement ring?

My kids are with him this weekend (ages 14 and 17)...I'm just really missing my kids today...Easter weekend...nice memories of Easter with them...Going out soon to get my fav. soup and then on to a movie...Tomorrow will be spending it off playing with a dear friend. Not bitter...just a bit sad today. Such is life...it happens...and life DOES go on...and we do still smile. I like the thought of my ring being at the S.F. Bay with all the ocean critters swimming through it.

That sounds like a really great thing to do with it. As for me, I had a small child, was working in a dead-end job with little pay. One day I needed some means to get groceries so I sold it. It wasn't worth much, but I was able to feed my son for a couple of weeks. That was years ago. Things are much better now!!!

didn't get the chance to decide yet, my husband, soon to be ex, told me he wanted it bc he bought it and if i didn't take it off i'd be sorry and then went and bought a bottle of tequilla with it. he was kind enough to give me the pawn ticket though... I like your idea, wish i lived near the ocean and i would do the same thing...
I am thinking of getting it out of pawn and putting it on my neck to always remember what a fool i was for believing in love. JK

It's in my top drawer with my other significant rings (father's day, college ring, etc.). Some ring memories and others cause you to take pause and learn from the past. Good luck! I wish I had a cool story to tell you...but it is in a drawer where I can find it when I need it.

I never got an engagement ring that should have been the first clue!!!!!!!

As for the wedding ring i put in a box with the wedding photos and all the other sentimental crap taped it up and put it away for my daughter.

She may want it. if not she can take it to the dump.

but I loved your ideas!

For my high school graduation gift, my mother gave me a ring made that had her diamond engagement stone from my father(they were long divorced by then). It's a gawdy looking thing and I've rarely ever worn it.
But I've kept it.
I have kept my wedding/engagement ring from my ex, and will combine that diamond with the one my mother gave me, into a special ring for my daughter when she graduates from high school , in two years.
So it now becomes a family heirloom.

Im not divorced, but since you love the ocean so much, you should have had it melted down and made into a necklace charm shaped like a seashell or dolphin or somthing.

My engagement ring was originally my grandmother's, so I kept it. It has strong sentimental value.

I kept my wedding band as well, though I don't know why. It isn't very valuable. I think it's just that I am a bit of a pack rat and don't really want to throw it away.

I came across mine just the other day in a box in one of my dresser drawers, and I thought about what I could do with it at the time.

I thought maybe I would give it to my 32 year old daughter from that marriage.

My rings are sitting on top of a crystal that my ex had given me, at the bottom of the crystal there is an inscription that reads "believe". I guess I haven't stopped "believing" that "someday".....silly me I suppose. I too, like the idea of a woman's shelter.

I have been married twice unfortunately neither worked out. I was low on money after my first marriage and sold my wedding band with other scrap gold, it seemed to be the right thing to do at the time. I wish I still had it to give to my daughter from that marriage. After my second marriage ended, I kept my wedding band and my ex-husband threw his at me, so now I have his and mine...I have my band laying inside of his in my jewelry box to give to my daughter from that marriage...she enjoys looking at them and trying them on..and she knows they will be hers some day, she can do with them what she wants to...to be honest I like looking at them some times to kind of go back and reflect on the marriage...that's kind of sad, isn't it?
