All the Islanders have to do now is win and there is only one Canadian team in the East playoffs - the Sens. If the Habs had won, they would have been in a better position.

I think he's trying to say...If Montreal had won, the Islanders would have been eliminated. The only chance for the Islanders was a leaf win.

I predicated earlier today that the Leafs would have more power plays than Montreal (7-4..with two 5 on 3's) and that the Islanders would have more than the Flyers (10 to 2) and that the Islanders would have more tomorrow against the Devils. So far I'm batting 100%
By the way watch Lou rest some of his better players tomorrow, or use them sparingly.
The reason, it's so obvisous !!!
Look at the penalty stats from last years Stanley Cup playoffs between American based teams and Canadian based teams....STATS DON'T LIE!
Bottom line is the NHL does not want the Stanley Cup to be won by a Canadian based team.
Who can forget the goal that didn't count that would have given the Flames the cup two years ago.

So what you are saying it that the Leafs should have thrown the game?
The hell with honour, integrity, and tradition, right? Tomorrow's game bewteen NJ and the Islanders means nothing to the Devils, so I guess the Devils should just stay home too? How about every game that the Flyers have played in 2 months?
And you said it best, IF the Habs had won. IF. They didn't. Get over it. Yes we eliminated the Habs and if I was pleased about it before, after reading your comments, I'm even happier about it.

Are you sure about that? At least the Leafs has a number one goalie (no matter how inconsistent he is) and a captain who has been getting points (1 goal, 17 assists in the past 20 games). Halak is untested, Huet is choking, and Koivu can't seem to produce. Leafs will take the first round. They have nothing to lose if they make the playoffs. Everybody (including Leafs fans such as myself) knows that they're a lackluster team with Ferguson as GM. The Sabres will choke like Cam Ward and the Hurricanes has done this season from the pressure.

Go Devils....oh, and the Leafs, of course.

I think the Islanders have a tough chore tomorrow; play tired and beat a real good team. The Devils aren't going to lay down for anybody.

I was rooting for the Habs cause I felt they matched up better with the Sabres than the other two teams shooting for the 8 spot.

How do you figure this one out? If the Leafs didn't win, they would have been eliminated from playoff contention alltogether. Now the Leafs are still alive, but the Islanders have to lose in order to secure themsleves a date with the Sabres in the first round.

A lot of Isles fans seem to be forgetting about their desperate goaltending situation... and the fact that Brodeur really likes adding records to his legacy. The Devils are not going to fall down for another Atlantic Division team, even if they decide to rest a few regulars.

With regards to Edmonton fans cheering for the Islanders... that is less than likely. Being one, and having talked to many, a lot of the Oilers contingent are still bitter that Smyth left over a small dollar difference in negotiation.

I feel like the city of Edmonton is going to root for the Isles anyways. But if you're a fan of Canadian teams, then yeah, you'd rather the Habs win.

The Leafs won'tbe going anywhere in the playoffs this year. Not with Raycroft.

Can anyone say what happen to the Oilers last year-they went all the way and were considered the under dog.If the leafs are in the playoffs they will have to fight for their lives cause Buffalo is going to be a tough team to get by but, it is doable

Oh now now poor Habs fan. The better team won tonight. The Leafs will take the Sabres in 7 games. The Habs would have choked in 5.
There is always next year my friend. As for now ...FOOOORE, get out the Titleists
