Why the city of Persia in Iowa or New York or California called Persia?

Since this is Trivia, I'm going to risk saying because if they called it anything else, like Detroit, it would create confusion especially with the mail service.

OK! There are references to it's history but I believe you should check this site. It's the second of two articles written by a Persian about Persia, Iowa. It's cute and has links for further information.

the only reason im answering this is because im from iowa. folklore says it was named after a guy who helped build the town who was from persia. dont know about the rest. usually towns are named after a person, or a culture who was significant at the time the town was formed. people didnt have much imagination back then.

Why not? There is a Paris Texas, so why not a Persia Iowa?
