I have this medicine called Quick Cure. I've never used it before. It says take the carbon out of the filter for 24 hours and it turned the water blue. Will the tank be ok with no filter? About how many days does it take to cure? Is it ok for my other fish who don't have it? Is there anything better for ick?

What do I do with the filter while I'm waiting 24 hours. Will it need a new one when I put it back in?

Quick Cure is a good ich medication and since you have already started treating I would suggest you stick with that. Heat and salt like mentioned above is also a good way to treat ich, but I wouldn't suggest swapping over at this point. Stick with what you are doing unless it becomes obvious after several days that it isn't working then swap to something else, but odds are very good the quick cure will do the job. Keep yur filter running and keep the bag in it, just with no carbon on the bag. If you have to cut the bag or pad open to dmp the carbon out and just put in a fresh one once the treatment is over. You can raise the tamp in your tank to about 82-84 to spped the cure process, but even in that case you need to treat for AT LEAST 10 days to be absolutely sure you are free of ich. Yes, it's a good idea to leave all of the fish in the tank while you treat. The entire tank gets ich, even if it doesn't show yet.

Medications like Quick Cure and the salt / heat method are the best ways to treat ich. there are resistant strains of ich around but very rare. If you see that one way doesn't work after several days, then switch to the method.

If you have a smaller tank you can move your barbs there but it's really best to treat the whole tank just in case. You're filter will be fine without the carbon. Most ich medications need 7 to 10 days to clear up the problem, even after the symptoms are gone. Read the manufacturers directions, all medications are different.

I personally use Pimafix for my tanks, it worked well for my dalmation lyretails and didn't bother my loaches.
I usually don't trust the ones that say they work quick, I've tried and it usually comes back.

Best of luck to you and your fish.

Do a large water change to get that Methylene Blue out of there... Raise the temp to 85 degrees, and add aquarium or rock salt at a rate of one teaspoon per gallon unless you have certain tetras, plecos, or corydoras which will not tolerate that salinity... if you do have those fish, then you could try half that amount. Do this for at least a week. Vacuum the gravel too, this helps remove the ick parasite in the tomite stage when they are hiding in the gravel.

Just because there is no carbon doesn't mean anything... I have not used carbon in any of my tanks for around ten years. All it does is remove things like medicine and heavy metals.
