I am only a sophmore in college, and it may be too early to start thinking about what i want to do in about 10 years. However, i've only got 2 years left of high school before college and it's going to go by really fast. i need help. how did everybody else know what they wanted to do with their life? what types of careers are out there besides doctor, lawyer, those big name jobs, etc.?

I suggest you read up on on decision theory and look at the Occupation Outlook Handbook.

Decision theory is concerned with how decision-makers make or should make decisions, and how optimal decisions can be reached. Learning how to make decisions that are best for you, is a skill I which I had learned in high school.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives.

For hundreds of different types of jobs the Occupational Outlook Handbook tells you:

* the training and education needed
* earnings
* expected job prospects
* what workers do on the job
* working conditions

I figured out what I wanted to do with my life when I took a computer programming class as a whim in the Spring Semester during my freshman year at college and loved it.

In general, I would say find something that you're passionate about and then figure out how to turn that into a career.

But you have years before you have to make this call. Enjoy high school---many people look back at their high school years and call those the best years of their life. Take time to savor it. You've got the rest of your life to worry about career and money.
