ummm, I understand religions role in 9/11, but for Iraq do you mean the idiocy of the Sunni-Shiite conflict? Because I will tell you that your just being a stereotypical bigot. People use "good" things to justify their evil all the time. But unlike you, I don't pre-judge people. Let me give you an example. As a justification for the rampage, the two Columbine shooters said they were participating in evolution by getting rid of the weak. But do I go around ignoring what Darwinism says, and instead focus on what a few nuts have used it to justify? No. But by your logic you must, and it also makes you a bit of a hypocrite because every religion, movement, and philosophy has been used at some point throughout history to justify violence. So some ideology you espouse has been used to justify violence, you can denounce them and not let them affect your feelings on that movement, or you can fall into the trap of judging everyones actions by those of the few. Also, to the person urging everyone to convert to Buddhism, you may want to check out youtube for some videos of Buddhists fighting in the streets with muslims.

The problem with a lot of religions is that they contradict reality. This needless to say creates a lot of problems. Religion is a simple way for people to find meaning in their existence. The religion they choose carries a lot of baggage. Mistaken beliefs and prejudice from religion result in conflicts and holding humanity back.
We are in fact headed to a more humanistic world. More and more people are starting to see that secular humanism is the key to happiness. It will take considerable time for the world to change though. Perhaps in 500 years, religion will be eliminated.

Wars and religion have been a staple for thousands of years.
But, to include all religions is irresponsible. There are some religions that are truly peaceful and are designed for the individual to become a better human being and to become more in tune with the world around us. They just don't happen to be as popular as they should be.
Oh, and as far as America being enlightened, HA HA HA HA !!!

People have done some pretty crappy things to other people throughout history that did not have anything to do with religion. Take the reds, for instance (unless you consider Marxism a religion).

I believe that you are full of good intentions in your question, BUT it is not RELIGION in itself that is BAD, it's the follower's that take it to the extreme's, and some are more extreme than other's, and we have them all over the world, but none have come to my attention more so than these Islamic Extremists, I truly beleive that those people are the most dangerous threat to the entire world in the history of mankind.

Only the radicals. All religions have radicals and those radicals need to be taken out but the religion themselves are a good thing and I don't care which religion it is. It keeps people in a peaceful mind. Even the atheists have their radicals. They are the ones who are gripping the loudest over other religions. You know, like you.

Nonsense. Look at the millions killed in the name of secular government in China, the Soviet Union, other communist and socialist nations.
Religion has also been the greatest charitable force the world has ever known.
You would destroy one of our rights for your ideology.
No thank you. I'm a U.S. citizen. That isn't for me. I'm not religious. Grateful they have a choice.
