How can a person compare abortion to the death penalty? It just doesn't make sense in my mind. Can someone please explain the comparison to me who understands it?
Thanks.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not considering abortion. I'm not even pregnant.
I just don't understand the reasoning behind the argument.
I agree with the people who say that abortion is the taking of an innocent life and the death penalty is the taking of a threat to humanity.
I am very much pro-life, and just wanted to try to understand the pro-choice opinion a little more.
Thanks to all who helped! :)

Abortion is taking an innocent life, whereas the death penalty is taking a guilty life. Pro-choicers are inconsistent when they want to kill the innocent and defend the guilty. But that is what the party of much of them supports. It is funny that a lot who support population control would rather people spend life behind bars with no parole than to be executed.

The death penalty is a legal punishment given a convicted murderer or traitor by a judge.
Abortion is a legal choice a woman makes concerning her own body.
The questions you have to ask yourself are, "Is having an abortion the right thing to do? Can I raise a child right now? What about putting the baby up for adoption?"
I refuse to be "pro-life" because I believe it is not my right to pass judgement on the actions of another person. That does not mean I am pro-baby killing either. I think the law should allow the procedure, but we should encourage people not to choose taking that route.

I think abortion is okay for the 1st trimester, since so many spontaneous abortions (miscarriages) happen then as well. I think it should be available in the 2nd trimester if the woman's life is in danger, she's been raped, or has been sexually abused. Otherwise, it can be a risky procedure for the woman as well. Third trimester abortions would endanger the life of the woman, so I can only see a doctor doing it to try to save a woman's life.
I think the death penalty is revenge, but I'm ok with it as just that. I don't see it as a deterrent or as a "religious" event. I don't think a person on death row is necessarily evil, as others have implied, since many are of low intelligence or retarded who are on death row. There's still debate if some of these people are capable of knowing right from wrong, since they have such low intelligence. What I don't like about death row is who ends up on it. How many rich white guys are on death row? The people who end up on death row are almost always poor, with poor representation. I dislike any punishment that is inflicted on people because of their class.
Neither is a black and white issue like so many portray it. Good question.

Supposedly, they're both taking a life. Quite frankly. I'm PRO abortion (beyond pro choice) and I am absolutely PRO Death Penalty. I don't think they're the same either, but lots of people do.

Agreed with the first response. Abortion is taking an innocent life while the death penalty is punishing a Criminal for premeditated murder.

cyanne2ak got a thumbs up from me even though we hold opposite positions on abortion. Those who compare the two don't distinguish between taking an INNOCENT life and PUNISHING convicted criminals with death. Most who claim abortion is not killing do not compare the two. If they do, they are hypocrites. You can't compare abortion to killing a criminal while denying it is killing.

Abortion is taking an innocent life, while the death penalty is punishment for a crime (usually murder).
This is why pro-lifers who support the death penalty (such as myself) are not inconsistent. We believe in preserving INNOCENT life. In fact, giving someone other than the death penalty for murder cheapens the life of the victim.

because its the death of a human being in whatever form that it is. God views that embryo as a live human. its is the same thing killing one or the other.
