Hotfixes are just limited corrections that are used to fix an issue temporarily for windows update. They may be developed prior to the official launch of the next service pack.

When you install a service pack, the first thing it does is to uninstall many hotfixes, prior to installing the update and then possibly install a new hotfix made for the new service pack.

If you delete the hotfixes, the next update may fail because it won't be able to track the changes that were performed on the system when installing those hotfixes, so the bottom line is no! Don't uninstall it, unless you want to format your HD again.

For Java each version is separate and independent, and can be deleted.

The safest way to remove the old versions is to remove all versions in the reverse order of their install, then install the wanted version. The 1.3 versions sometimes have shown undesired interactions with later versions.

If you remove the fixes, your system may revert to whatever was giving you a headache in the first place.

Removing JAVA updates may cause it to work less effectively.

Surely there is another way you can free up disk space.
