Scientists don't know for sure. But I have a surprising answer for you. It is very possible that homosexuality is often caused by neither genetics nor choice.
You see, for most homosexuals, they are men with female brains, or women with male brains. So a man will have the kind f thoughts and feelings that a woman would experience, and a woman would feel like a man.
What would cause this? The sexuality of the brain is determined during youth during a major milestone of brain development. For men, the aspects of the brain unique to men are developed, and the same for women. But sometimes, something goes wrong and the development happens in the opposite way.
No one knows why. But the result is a homosexual human being. It could be external factors, such as exposure to certain chemicals, either in food or the environment. If so, the cause would be neither genetics or choice.
Certainly some people DO choose to adopt homosexual lifestyles, even though they have normal brains.

I think 4 SOME they are born with a desire 2 be who they feel they associate with inside their MIND no matter what their physical body looks like. A female can have a body of a female but feel totally male and desire other women. SOME people turn gay as a fade or because of experiments. Some people start off straight and chose 2 go across the fence just 2 try it(because it's taboo) once they get their feel of it they go back . It can be a personal choice.
U can say it is genetic for some, they are born that way and can't change, if they didn't truly believe this is who they are, why would they take their life over it, some people cannot conform 2 what society think they should be no matter how hard they try 2 fit in. People do not kill themselves over fades they really believe they were born this way.( the highest rate of suicide is among gay teenagers)
I don't think we should judge-leave that 2 GOD- live and let live. And 2 those that say it is against GOD'S law, I say 2 u, have u EVER did anything against GOD'S law?, lye, steal, cheat, swear, commit adultery, judge- (He does say not 2 judge.) If you think they(gay) committed a sin, is your sins any less than theirs.

I can't imagine why anyone would "choose" to be homosexual & subject themselves to all the bashing & sinning, etc. But that is just common sense. Certainly it could NOT be a "fad." I recently read a very credible report on the "origin" of homosexuality; of course I can't find it now that I want it! It has to do with DNA, & this was followed up with a terribly controversal issue--since the homosexual "propensity" can be determined before birth, should the parents be allowed to change it! I never thought it was a choice, but this "new" information confirms it is not. This will certainly put a snag in Falwell's (whatever!) jeans who LOVES homosexuals but not their SIN, & has been babbling about how they can be "changed." Well. Just try & "change" me from being a heterosexual! What nonsense. It has also been proven, (prior to this last information), that environment has absolutely nothing to do with it, & I can't say how delighted I will be when the scientific FACT can no longer be in debate. What fools mortals be!

I think for about 99.9999% of homosexual people, they are born homosexual. There is a time during a woman's pregnancy when she releases hormones that affect the fetuses sexuality--and this hormone can be brought on when the mother feels her husband is being a spineless worm so she has to be the man in the family (more or less). For some people, it takes longer to figure out what their sexual preference is--I had a friend who was halfway through college before he figured out he was gay; up until that time he couldn't figure out why girls liked him as a brother but never thought of him as a lover and although he liked girls like sisters, he never felt anything more for them (but he though he was only being gentlemanly). Others notice that they basically like people of their own gender, as they get older they have physical feelings for people of their own gender only. But there are people (I would say predominantly women) who become homosexual because of a traumatic incident(s); I had another friend who had been raped by her father's best friend, father & his friend were both cops so she felt she couldn't go to the police for help (mother disbelieved her) so for many years she avoided male friends, had this really warped idea of hetero sex, and had a lesbian lover. Eventually she met a guy in a bar who forced her to realize men were not beasts and what she felt about hetero sex was totally based on the rape, not on a love relationship.

Neither.
There is a very, very strong correlation between maternal stress and homosexuality. One can only think for this that highly elevated levels of cortisol, adrenaline, etc, bathing the fetal brain, induces subtle changes affecting the pertinent section of the brain.
Why would you think that it's a choice? Why would anyone chose a life that ensures they'll be harassed by idiots for the whole of their life?

I think it is genetic. I have seen 3 year old boys and you could just tell. I have been working with children for over 30 years and have maintained relationships with many of them - they call or come back and say hello. It just is the way it is. Now once someone is Gay, they then choose to hide it or flaunt it. The interesting part is where lesbians are concerned I have known several women who lived a lesbian lifestyle for several years then left that relationship and went on to marry men and have children. I have no idea why but I don't remember seeing this same thing with men. Interesting huh? Now, let me say one other thing - I am pushing 60 and I don't care what anyone's sexuality is unless I am planning on sleeping with them-lol. So y'all just go do what ever you want to do just leave me out of it!!

Cientists have verified that it is a genetic matter.According to them, the connections between the two parts of the brain contain the hints that affect the sexual aspects of everyone's life.If a brain has significant female characteristics and its owner is a man,he is likely to be a homossexual. On the other hand,a male brain within a woman would mean that she is homossexual, too.

i truly believe that most homosexuals had no choice whatsoever in their sex preference. Honestly you cannot help who you fall in love with or are attracted to. i have known of many gay people who were ashamed of their unwanted feeling for the same sex. but eventually they learned to realize that that was a part of who they are. though they certainly didnt have a choice in the matter. on the other hand , i believe some people choose ACT gay based on popular trends....

I'm not really sure its genetic, but I definitely think its biological. Meaning that I'm not sure its a gene that is passed on, but I think it is a chemical determination in your body, not a choice.
It certainly was not a choice for me.

I think that it is a choice and a person's environment has something to do with it. I know that if your parent is homosexual that does not mean you will be, but I think that something in a person's past helped them make that choice. I do not think that people are born that way because we are all born with the power of choice and free will.
