I am very interested in United States politics+government. I'm going to be going into high school next year so I realize I can't do much as far as a job or internship, but what about classes or anything else that could prepare me?

Emma,
great question! I would recommend that you join "toasmasters" and the debate club in your high school. If you are just entering high school then it may be a couple of years before you can run for school president or some other position such as treasurer, etc. I would also encourage you to take some music classes, because the political world can often require a good person to want to "escape" to something different and relaxing.

It is good to see younger people want to get involved and refreshing to see a person not "bashing" some point or way of thinking. Consider focusing on your usual and mandatory studies, but I would also encourage you to read (occassionally) in depth life stories of our Fore Fathers. Most (if not all) had very interesting lives and were committed to the citizens of this nation to have freedoms never before witnessed in any country prior.

I am also going to encourage you to follow this link to Mount Vernon home of George Washington. A few new things opened up there this passed October and they have a terrific book selection for kids your age, younger, and older.

Best of luck and maybe I will see you run for political office one day!

Sorry, Emma. It's not like Civics class.

If you're going into government because you believe in the Constitution, you'll need to go to another country. If, on the other hand, you want power without accountability; if you like running and ruining other peoples' lives; if you like to spend other peoples' hard-earned money without a second thought; if you like a big-buck job without having any qualifications; if you like not having to follow the rules you make everybody else follow; if you like to enter into contracts for other people without the burden of reading the contracts, then politics is for you.

Just teach yourself to ignore your conscience and learn to tell everybody what they want to hear. Learn to steal without remorse, and realize that you're smarter than everybody you're bossing around.

Or you could look for honest work. Good luck!

Practice lying through your teeth in front of the mirror. Do it every night until you can espouse the most obscene untruths with a straight face.

Get involved in a good conservative church.
Go down to the border and talk to the families who have had their lives ruined by illegal immigration.
Study the constitution, and learn to love it and defend it.
