Offering you these options / strategies: Fill a bottle sprayer (gallon pump type) with water and then add just enough plain dish washing soap (cheap pink or yellow stuff) till water shows color. Gently bob the bottle back and forth til soap and water mixes and then spray every where in your yard - plants, bushes, etc. This will eliminate most of the pests in your yard, including the fleas and mosquitoes. Bat boxes placed on trees are great. Bats eat mosquito's in great volume. Sulfur dust (comes in bags at the hardware or feed store) is easy to spread everywhere (easiest method is shaking a filled mesh strainer = dusting). Putting some vegetable oil in standing water that you can't remove is a good trap. Planting marigolds and citronella. There are also foggers you can purchase at Mart type stores. Hope these suggestions help. They work for our home and we don't need the expensive fogger.

Go to your local feed and seed store. They should carry different kinds of chemicals. Ask for permethrin 10%. It works well on fleas ( at least in this area) and it should work well for the mosquito's. And if you need to you can use it inside your home. The only thing is you will probably have to spray it more than once, maybe every 10 days or so to get the full effects.
Good Luck. They are a pain to deal with. I know, I live in the South and sometimes you would think those darn mosquito's are gonna pack you off !!!

1. Check your property to make sure you have no containers of water that are breeding mosquitos. If not, call your local vector control. They usually come out and fog an area. You can purchase "Yard Guard". It helps for a time. You can also buy a bug buster. It is electric and attracts them to the blue light it emits. When they fly into it, they are electrocuted.

2. Fleas on dogs can be eliminated by used of a dip, but it has to be repeated in a week since the eggs will hatch even after a dip. If they are in your house, and you have carpet, you can sprinkle borax powder into your carpet. They will be exposed to it and it will kill them. No carpet? Use a "bomb" or get an exterminator.

May have to use a commercial flea/tick bomb to rid the fleas. Mosquitoes breed best in damp or stagnant water. try clearing up wet spots after spraying to kill what's there.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

To successfully get rid of fleas & 'skitters, call the Orkin man or the Terminix man. It's not that expensive & they are great when it comes to eliminating unwanted pests. I have the Terminix man come periodically, & it's well worth it.

How to get rid of mosquitos and fleas is tough but the
best way to reduce the risk of insect bites? You have to remember that it's not only mozzie that can transmit infections, ticks and fleas can make life pretty uncomfortable too!

The Centre for Disease Control in the US is one of the leading public health organisations in the world, and makes these suggestions for travellers to help them reduce the risk from insect bites:

- Use insect repellent on exposed skin to repel mosquitos, ticks fleas and other arthropods. DEET is recommended (the correct scientific name is diethyl meta tolu amide) in concentrations of 30 to 50%, which is effective for several hours.
- For infants under 2 months of age use a baby carrier draped with a mosquito netting with an elastic edge for a tight fit.
- When using sunscreen, apply the sunscreen first and then the repellent. The repellent should be washed off at the end of the day before going to bed.
- Wear long-sleeved, tucked-in shirts, long pants and a hat to cover exposed skin. When you visit areas with ticks and fleas, wear boots not sandals, and tuck pants into your socks.
- Apply per meth rin-containing insect repellents to clothing, shoes, tents, mosquito nets, and other gear for greater protection. Per meth rin is not labeled for use directly on skin. Most repellent is generally removed from clothing and gear by a single washing, but per meth rin-treated clothing is effective for up to 5 washings.
- Be aware that mosquitoes that transmit malaria are most active during twilight periods (dawn and dusk or in the evening).
- Stay in air-conditioned or well-screened housing, and/or sleep under an insecticide treated bed net. Bed nets should be tucked under mattresses and can be sprayed with a repellent if not already treated with an insecticide.

If you follow all these precautions then you will significantly reduce the risk of getting bitten and this will reduce the risk of suffering from a debilitating illness here in Australia, and if you're traveling to high risk areas overseas, then it will help protect you against potentially life threatening diseases which these insects can spread.

Of course, it will not give you total protection, and you should discuss with your health care provider which medications you may need to take to stop any of these illnesses should a Mozzie break through your defenses. That brings me back to the boffins in Darwin: by combining a chemical from traditional Chinese medicine, with a long acting drug known to help prevent malaria they appear to have come up with an improved method of helping those 40% of the world's population who are exposed to Malaria - now that can't be a bad thing, but I sincerely hope that this is one 'medical miracle' which actually lives up to its reputation!
