Everyone says to clean with vinegar and water but what about the disinfecting part of the cleaner? What would help with this?

For my all purpose cleaner, I make a mixture of vinegar, alcohol, and water (distilled). The alcohol DOES disinfect, and the vinegar eats away gunk. LOOOOVE vinegar!

Vinegar is an acid, so it does have a disinfecting effect in that it kills some bacteria. However a commercial cleaner-disinfectant is probably. However, to clean a coffee maker, running a cycle of vinegar water through it is the best way to clean it.

I use vinegar for cleaning! I have a squirt bottle and mix something like 1/3 part vinegar to 2/3 part water. but it's not an exact science. I use as an all purpose cleaner. It's good on windows, floors, counter tops, toys, most anything really. It's good for every day cleaning. If you need a good deep clean (like disinfecting after illness) I would use bleach then. I do have a seperate cleaner I use in bathrooms - for tubs, toilets, sinks. Edit: vinegar is also a whole lot more inexpensive to clean with! I buy a huge gallon jug for $1, and it will last me for months.

I have never heard of vinegar containing a disinfecting ingredient. I don't know what ingredient in vinegar could disinfect, truth be known. I use cleaners that contain ammonia for disinfecting my home. I also use Pine Sol too.

Its good to use as a window cleaner because it doesn't leave streaks. plus its better for the environment if you use vinegar mix with water as a glass cleaner. It doesn't produce the Ammonia that is in regular glass cleaners.

Vinegar is very good for getting rid of mineral deposits but it does not disinfect. You want bleach for that. Or something like Pine Sol.
