Id say the tank is not "full" To fill a tank takes many many years of usage. and so few solids are left after bacterial action ive heard of cases tanks havent been pumped out solids in 40 years or even more.

Your field or 'finger system' is supposted to take on water. That is the purpose of the finger system of pipes out there so that the water can then drain down into the soil below and dissipate.

If you are dumping your laundry water into the septic via a pipe, that is not good for the tank bacteria and enzymes. The chlorine and detergents in wash water destroy the active bacteria in a tank. So if you suspect the tank, back off on the laundry. Go to a Laundrette in the shopping mall to do laundry.

You might have had excessive rains and the soil is clay and cannot handle the septic water. Again, the septic water is normal event.

One solution of Laundry water is to dig a hole about 4 x4 in back yard and fill with crushed rock. Then pipe out the laundry water to there avoiding the sewage septic tank. The crushed rock is topped off with soil and grass.

Regardless of the tanks condition, a gas will not ever be smelled near a toilet. That has zero to do with a septic tank. There is a roof vent of 3 inch dia pipe that vents the toilet to outside roof.

Before you procede much farther with expensive pumping of the sewage tank, You might have a wax seal on the toilet that is leaking at the floor. That costs like $2 at lowes and simply raise up the toilet by unbolting and install it Easy to do.

Those additives to tanks are a waste of money Plenty of Bacteria and enzymes in a Sewage tank. No need for that its a scam getting your money.

Leaking into field could be due to a pipe loose or cracked. Any heavy equipment drive over the leachbed recently? That may damage the pipes.
The smell coming from the toilet means there isnt water in the trap and sewer gas is seeping back into the house. If you have done some work on a toilet in another part of the house recently the reset toilet could have an airleak in the seal underneath and be siphoning the water from the trap.

Sounds like the tank is full. The organic action has probably stopped, especially if your washer drains into it..Also, your field drain could be clogged. Try calling the honey wagon to get your tank pumped out. If that works, keep washer drains out of the septic system, use "Rid" once a month. It you continue to get open drainage in then field drain area, you may have to put in a new field drain.

My septic tank and my neighbours have been running for ten years without being pumped out. Sounds like another fault. Have you done any DIY/house repairs recently ? Had any builders in who may have tipped plaster or cement waste down a drain.?

PS question for PAPAW 944 What is "Rid" ? Is it some sort of additive for the tank?

No, I'd say your tank is overflowing. As for the odor, uness you are having a backup or have had an overflow, I'd check my wax seal for leaks. Sounds like you need to have the tank pumped. If you have had alot of rain lately, you need to lower your water usage - don't wash clothes as often and take showers instead of the tub.
