If you're a smoker, you should try to quit. Otherwise, just eat healthily and start taking folic acid a couple of months before you want to start trying.
The other thing I would say is don't put it off for too long - we spend so much time and effort trying not to get pregnant, it's easy to think that once you start trying it will happen straight away, but that's not always the case. Particularly if it's something you've waited and planned for, it can be really hard if it doesn't happen quickly. If you can think about when you'll start trying as opening a window, rather than as when you'll get pregnant that'll help.
Also, if you're on the pill, particularly if you have been for a long time, I would recommend coming off the pill a good long time before you want to start trying, and use condoms instead until you're ready, just to give your body a chance to get the pill out of your system. It took a good six months for my cycle to settle down after I came off the pill, and I have other friends who've had similar problems.
Best of luck and I hope it happens quickly for you when the time comes!

You should go to your doctor and have a blood test to make sure that you are healthy and that your vaccines are up to date. I would also recommend starting to learn how to chart your cycles as this will highlight any cycle irregularities and that can be sorted before you start trying to conceive. It will also help you to know when you are most fertile and so decrease the amount of 'trying' you will have to do.
Think about your diet too. Do you eat a healthy, balanced diet? Start buying organic food to get any pesticides out of your system. Also start taking pre-natal vitamins with folic acid to make sure your body is nutritionally prepared for your baby.
Make sure you are exercising, but don't go crazy. A 30 minute brisk walk per day is sufficient.

Get prepared, make sure you are ready for it. I would do it sooner then later. I'm 31 and going to have my first. I'm soo happy but I wished I started a few years ago in my late 20's instead.

Earn as much money as you can, built a great career before you do or find a very capable husband, having kids left you with very little time working, since you can't leave them alone without a baby sitter.

Start saving! Travel to any places you want to go to, determine if your house is the house you want to stay in for a while or even if it wil be big enough. Basically everything you can't do when you have a little one around. Good luck xx
