Keep grass clippings, leaves clean garbage and build a compost pile with an inexpencive wire fence around it. For each foot of compost spread a cup of bone meal.

Find a farmer who will give away or sell Chicken manure or cow manure. Do not use horse manure as horses eat any hay they can find. Poor hay fed to horses bad has a lot of weed seeds in it and weed seeds will grow in your garden.

Composting is best for it, Fertalizer does have a Chemical Residual in it that stays with the food. use Organic Cow Manure (No Smell) or just put all your green stuff in a spot & start composting it for your yard. If you don't fertalize yoru Lawn you can use that too. Yes leaves are good you can run them over with lawn mower to grind them up & put them in the garden just remember no Grass if you Fertalize it cause of the Chemicals. You Can go buy Blood Meal, Bone Meal, & some Natural things to help it out even put in your coffee grounds too OH yes Roses & Ever Green Shrubs do like Coffee Grounds too they like a acidic soil. you can also check out http://www.jerrybaker.com he has a bunch of bvooks on Organic gardening using house hold products too. Well poop is good but I would recommend savings all your vegetable scraps and perhaps any lawn clippings you have. Chop them up and mix them in the soil. They will decompose and enrich your garden greatly. You can also go to the library and check out some books on natural gardening. A lot of plants like things such as ammonia, beer, etc and they can give you "recipes" for using such common items.

Use your food scraps and you can use it as a compost. In this way, you can use as less as you want in your small garden.
