Convert the mixed number to a improper fraction

5/3 + 9/4 + 3/2 =

The common denominator is 12

20/12 + 27/12 + 18/12 =

add the improper fraction

65/12 =

5 5/12

Once you find the common denominator

5/3 =

Divide 3 into 12 = 4. multiply 4 times the numerator 5 = 20. so the improper fraction becomes 20 / 12. do the same procedte for the remaining improper fractions
