Bear Mountain Blvd (Hwy 223)
about 40 mi. South of Bakersfield

I'm not sure of the exact half way point, but I used to drive from San Diego to Fresno at least twice a month and I would always stop in Gorman (on the Grapevine). It seemed to be about half way for me.

I would say the Buttonwillow exit where there is a bunch of places to eat and rest.
