I'm 17 and a virgin. My discharge smells pretty strong (in a bad way). It's white, sometimes transparent but does not itch nor 'cottage cheese'-like. When it dries up, it does get into a clump but I'm assuming that's normal since it sticky things all dry up that way. Sometimes the discharge also comes out excessively, making me feel very wet and uncomfortable as well as embarrassed. I can't tell if anyone else can smell it but I can and I strongly hate that.

Is this normal? How can I make the discharge less or make the odor disappear (any other options beside pantyliners...)

Serious answers only, please. Thank you!

I strongly suggest you go see your doctor, it’s the best thing you can do for your health. It doesn't sound like a yeast infection (I think that's what you were referring to with the 'cottage cheese' comment) as the discharge is usually odourless. But, excessive discharge is not normal & your doctor will give you the correct diagnosis & treatment for your condition.

Don't worry. This is very normal, though you don't see many girls actually ask about it. Most are embarrassed and do not want people to look at them like they are disgusting for asking. That is why these forums are great...you can be invisible and ask...

I douche every other day. The packages only cost a little over a dollar and contain two each, so for a dollar a week you can stop it. All it does is cleanse your vaginal area inside where it needs to be. There is nothing wrong with you.
**I hate pantyliners as they don't help with the problem, just makes it easier to discard...

Note:
If you have never douched, be sure to put the bottle of solution in warm water first for about ten minutes prior to using it...nothing more shocking than that cold where you don't want it...ha ha

Good Luck!

Some discharge is normal and it will get heavier during you ovulation period....the odor is not normal, but if you dont have any itching or irritation down there, that is a good sign, dont worry too much about it, I would just call your doctor and they can make sure you dont have an infection or anything...

Also you can wear pantyliners, and carry some wipes around with you to freshen up throughout the day...thats what I do anyways!! Dont worry though, im sure your fine!! Good luck with everything!! :)

I recently looked up the same type of problem that you are having on the internet....... as I have been having issues with my cycle as well.

It suggested: eat cinnamon every time you get a chance to, take vitamin e supplements, & take vitamin d supplements OR drink 4 (8 oz.) glasses of milk for your vitamin d!!!!

Guess what??? It works!!!!!! It does help w/cramping & regulates my cycle.

As far as discharge........ if it smells very bad, it is very likely you have an infection of some type. But DO NOT douche...... as it will only make it worse!!! See a doctor. When you become a little older....... it's not embarrassing........ it's just a fact of life!!!!

There's nothing to be embarrassed about when you see a doctor..... the truth is that doctor's have seen it all!!!! Over & over & over again.

You may have a yeast infection, you HAVE to go to a GYN for an exam, it's okay to go even though you're a virgin. It doesn't make you look bad. It is something you should begin doing about now. The doctor can properly diagnose you and get you treatment, but you HAVE to go to the doctor, you can't just make it go away, and it is very common, so don't feel like you've done anything wrong. After treatment start taking acidophilus and AZO Yeast supplements. That should help prevent it from coming back. Good luck to you.

Most, (95%+) vaginal odor is caused by an infection called "gardnerella" which causes bacterial vaginosis. While this infection can be passed between partners, it is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is one of the chief causes of vaginal odor. This odor may become more pronounced after having sex and is fishy in nature.

I would strongly advise you to visit the site bellow which has a lot of information, symptoms and treatment, including other sites links.

It sounds like you have a yeast infection. Go to the doctor they can help you. That type of discharge and smell is not normal at all.

sound like you have an infection of some type going on.if no one has brought it to your attention then you probably don't smell to anyone else.you usually smell yourself before anyone else does.see your obgyn and don't wear your undies tight as this holds moisture and makes it worse.use vaginal wipes to help you feel fresh and pantyliners to keep your panties from going into a clump.what you may be smelling is your body's natural odor.every female smells different.

It is possible that it is a sign of infection. I would very much advise going to see a docter. There is no need to be embarresed.

Try wearing a panty liner to avoid leakage. There are femin whipes that you can buy from the chemist to help keep yourself clean. Be careful cleaning down there with normal cleaning producters as these could upset the chemical balance. :)
