If you are talking about actual fish themselves they do not smell unless they are dead.

If your fish tank smells there is something wrong with you water quality. Test for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. A heathy tank that has been cycled with have a reading 0ppm for both ammonia and nitrites. And when you test nitrates anything under 40ppm is good. If any of those are higher water changes are needed.

The fish dont smell.
It's the ammonia left off by their pooh.
If you keep you cage clean and tidy, it wont smell.
Consider a deep layer of small gravel.
Also get a filter and a pump.
Trust me on this,
it so helps.
I also recomend you look up some more information on fish care.Lack of nolage, like your question shows, can end up killing your fish.
Its not hard. You just need 5, 15 min tops to find all the information you will need.

Ammonia=
This is the first step in the nitrogen cycle. Ammonia is generated by fish urine and by the decay of dead fish and plant material. It is perhaps the deadliest agent to tropical fish. Care must be made to ensure that the ammonia levels stay as close to zero as possible.

(oh, water is not an element. Its a compound of 1 nitrogen atom and 2 oxygen atoms)

Once again they smell because they are either dead or because their tank smells. And Water is a compound of ONE oxygen and two hydrogen atoms, just so you know.

Something fishy going on there,
you'd think they could splash on a little underfin deodorant,
scale down the whiffy bits.
