(x)(x) = 2(8)

x² = 16

√x² = ± √16

x = ± 4

There are two solutions - 4 and 4

x² = 16

Place - 4 in the place of x

(- 4)² = 16

16 = 16

Place the 4 in the place of x

(4)² = 16

16 = 16

method 2 for - 4

Multiply two negativer (-) numbers results in a positive (+)

(- 4)(- 4) = 16

(- 4)² is the same as multipling

cross x^2=16 x= sq.rt.16 x=+/- 4

since x^2=16, x is either -4 or 4

(-4)/2=8/(-4)
and
4/2=8/4
