I'm 21 years old and have always known I wanted to adopt instead of give birth. I've thought for a long time about a tubal ligation. Before now no doc. ever has taken me seriously. (too young) Recently I've heard of a way, while they are in there, they scar your uterus so it closes together and you don't have your period anymore. That would be amazing! I was on Depo for a long time because it got rid of it. I had to quit because it made me sick. I have a hard time dealing with mentral issues. So, does anyone know about this new thing? And can you give me info. web sites...any ideas? Thank you!

The procedure you are talking about is called endometrial ablation where they burn the lining of the uterus but like with what you were told about tubal ligation no dr would be willing to do this on you because of your age and the fact that you may change your mind later. Women have been known to get pregnant with this procedure. It's not something that happens with regularity (meaning common) but it has been known to happen.

The thing you need to do right now is try to figure out what is causing the problems with your period so that it can be treated accordingly.

I suspect you're thinking of "Endometrial Ablation". In that procedure, the endometrium (the lining of your uterus) is destroyed, using either a laser beam, heat, freezing, or electrical current. The lining heals by scarring, and most women get either less menstruation, or none at all.

I don't have a specific website for you: I'm not personally too familiar with the procedure. But you can google it, and there's a lot of info out there. Your doc may not perform it, even if they are okay with doing a tubal on someone your age, just because it is not all that common... and younger women tend to have less good results than older women.

I've never heard of that procedure. There's no doctor that would perform a tubal ligation on you because of your age and no children. You might change your mind down the road about having kids. There's nothing wrong with wanting to adopt kids, but it's also nice to have at least 1 child of your own. Good luck and really think hard about all of this.

Have you tried birth control pills? That can help lighten your periods and even decrease painful periods...
